So who do we want/expect/hope?

I'm condescending to anyone who thinks Rafa Benitez was the reason we were in the Champions League.

If he's half as good as you think he is how the fuck did he take a CL winning side and turn it midtable at Inter Milan ?

If you half a brain you'll realise he wasn't really responsible for either event. He just happened to be there at the time.

We'll agree to have different views on RB. I'll remember the four/five seasons in Europe, you remember the one bad season he had. So be it.

I feel grateful for the Wednesdays and Tuesdays I felt like a giggly young fella jumping up and down watching us among Europe's elite, you can criticize it instead.

But taking a man who fights relegation battles every year, and appointing him manager is silly. You need a winner, a person players can respect, someone who will instill confidence, someone with some track record of achievement that people can have confidence in, when things go pear shaped. Otherwise, it's Hodgson all over again.

I'm not sure who you are referring to. If we signed Martinez today and you said that you think it's the wrong choice and he probably is going to fail, I'd have no argument.
I actually know very little about the guy.

However, if you are calling him a useless cunt who will definitely have us in a relegation dogfight, despite him having never had the opportunities and advantages of being at a big club, then I'd question your rationale.

If you were also calling our owners clueless for merely considering him as a candidate, then I'd probably stop questioning and start ignoring.

Which is probably what I should have done.

Mate, I don't use the C word. Simply put, I want someone who has achieved, and is a class act up and coming. Not a guy, who has battled relegation every year FFS. He's not going to win the dressing room over after a few bad results is he?

Ross, I missed the post that spawned the infamous 'the manager makes no difference' jibe, but I think I get where you're coming from.

The study basically says that when you equalise for all other factors the vast majority of managers make no statistically appreciable difference to their clubs.

And clubs fall and rise based on their finances generally, but people never actually look at that and instead give credit to whoever the manager happened to be at the time.

Can we please stop with the personal insults? We all have brains, and we all deserved to be heard (Thankfully, Glock doesn't post here anymore)

So truthfully,we have no money to spend and are looking for a miracle worker on a shoe-string budget who has to sell before he can buy....

oh by the way.......get us into the champions league old chap.....

aren't we the fucking anomoly to that study though as in we do worse than it suggests

yeh cause that pardew has had a stinker at newvastle after being sacked by Southampton for being pants, the guy that replaced him got southampton promoted.

yeh and we would not want that bloke who got sacked at West Brom who just got Chelsea to CL final and won the FA CUP.

your talking pants fella, past success or failure is all dependant on your previous club not your talent. What was the club Pep managed before Barca ?????

thank you

I have no idea if he would win the dressing room after some bad results. No clue.

I just think it's silly to assume he couldn't because of his previous clubs, and I think it's especially silly to get in a fuss about it when it's a rumour about an interview.

I just asked Luke to pick three potato letter shapes out of the bag for his tea (with other stuff inc veg btw, I'm not a cunt) & he pulled out B, V & A in that order.

I think that seals it. We're getting Boas.

Is that true or are you telling whoppers?

If it is legit i'm putting a serious bet on it happening (well maybe a £10).

i can picture it now. a few losses and the corresponding pressure and martinez will look utterly out of his depth.

It isn't about talent it's about expectation of going to a club where you are expected to win every week, can he handle that? It would be nice if the new guy had 'some' experience of managing a team with greater expectations than simply getting to 40 points.

Ok, then I see the argument, but don't completely agree. Could you link me to the study?

I'm especially interested to see if leadership is a factor that gets equalised.

I'm not great with technology but even if I was I'm not sure I could link to the book

Jurgen Klopp's win percentage prior to his move to Borussia Dortmund was 40.47% - i.e. Roy Hodgson's level.
