So who do we want/expect/hope?

I fully agree Sunny, and I think the crux of my point is that he's "promising", that's all. The position we're in at the minute isn't particularly one where we can fully be content with looking at the longterm again, at projects that may take time to get off the ground. We're in a predicament where we need to get as close to CL football as possible and in as short a time as is feasible. We're caught between a rock and a hard place, we need to restructure and start from the ground up, which in itself takes time and the mentality we're rumored to be trying to instill - attacking football, getting methodical again and creating a blueprint for the whole club, will take time and patience. We've already seen with Kenny and Woy, that it's not a commodity we're able to offer.

That said, I can see now why we're having designated roles behind the scenes, increasing the capacity of the DOF role (for example), all that points to a younger manager coming in and getting an abundance of support at the club, which is great, but it'll be the results that matter and if they're not forthcoming, there's only one place where the buck (and the criticism) will stop.

Understand your points Mark, I just want to get away from this belief many fans hold that 12 months and a pot of money can solve our ills. They're far deeper than that

The Porto side with which Villa Boas built his reputation by going undefeated all season, romped to the title this season as well losing only once.

It was his assistant that took over as manager.

AVBs record at Porto - 88 %

Pererias record for Porto this season - 65%

Regardlessof that, his stint at Academica is also impressive:

At the start of the 2009–10 season, Villas-Boas left Mourinho's support team to pursue a career as manager, and he soon found a job in the Primeira Liga with Académica de Coimbra, filling a vacancy created by Rogério Gonçalves' resignation in October 2009.[10][11] At the time of Villas-Boas' appointment, Académica were at the bottom of the league and still without wins, but their luck started to change as he introduced a new style, leading them to a safe 11th place, ten points clear of the relegation zone. In addition to that, Académica also reached the 2009–10 Portuguese League Cup semi-finals, losing against Porto at the Estádio do Dragão with a late goal from Mariano González. His impact at Académica was immediate, not only because of solid results, but also because of the attractive football displayed by the team, which led to intense media speculation linking him with the vacant jobs at Sporting Clube de Portugal and Porto in the summer of 2010.

I also read somewhere that qualifying for the Champions league next season will not be the minimum requirement for the incoming manager.
We have had plenty of five year plans in the past so I guess another one won't do any harm

Played 30
Won 11
Drew 9
Lost 10

Haha. Maybe we should stop reffering to 5 year plans...

I am sure Villas Boas will be a good manager wherever he ends up. But I am still amazed that people takes stats and facts from one season in one league and throw as evidence for what probably will happen in a totally different league a totally differen season.

I can promise everybody one thing: There is no league in Europe (Well at least top 15 league) where players are more static and awaiting a pass at feet than Portugal. No league were teams are less reluctant to take a counter. No league with less physical contact. I don't say these are things he can't adjust too, but there were quite a few people here that took it for granted he would walk straight to PL and brush the other teams of the park with Chelsea. The guy is 34.... He has performed well in environments he knows with a press and a language he masters. He had by far the best team with most resources. And he did well. That doesn't directly transfer to the situation neithr here or at Chavs.

It just struck me how much fun it's been on here over the last few days.

What i'm trying to say is that basically you're all twisted as fuck (in a good way).

It is beginning to look like it has always been Villa Boas.
What about the interviews for the other eleven managers?

They were bottom of the league mate, with no wins. First managerial experience and I think its impressive. Academica actually won the Portugeese cup this year....

my theory;
you hire AVB but you leak martinez first and there is uproar from the fans and then you announce AVB and even though he had previously fucked up at chelsea he liverpool fans thank their lucky stars given the alternative.

another theory;
with our season to be filmed they wanted a young suave looking manager to charm the american ladies and get the female support in america
