Whelan has given us permission to speak to Martinez apparently. Gutted if true.

"When they phoned me, I was actually with Roberto and having a meeting about what to do next season," he told Sky Sports News HD.
"I have always said that when a big club comes he will have permission to talk to them - and Liverpool, they don't come any bigger than Liverpool.
"I gave him permission and he will be talking to them soon. I don't know when, but it will be quite soon."

Why the apparent change in tone from Whelan?

it would be nice to know if they are sticking with the DoF role ....cause you would think if they are then that man should be put in place first and then play a major role in recruiting the manager .

ok they may just be interviewing martinez now but they obviously feel he's a contender . I'd love to know why they think he's experienced enough for this job . Surely they know that lots of fans will be against him from the start so the moment there are any signs of it going wrong then it will be hodgson all over again

Hahaha. God I love and hate this place in equal measure.

So we have a tweeted rumour about Martinez. Not only do we jump from that to slagging off the owners for 'even considering him', but we've also made the leap into 'the stoopid owners are getting in Martinex and we will be fighting relegation with him.'

Brilliant.

The Wigan chairman, Dave Whelan, has confirmed that Martínez is due to speak with Liverpool after the owners, Fenway Sports Group, parted company with Kenny Dalglish on Wednesday.
"It is true," Whelan told The Times. "I don't know the exact timescales of when he is due to meet with the Liverpool owners but I will never stand in Roberto's way."
Whelan, who still hopes Martínez will remain with Wigan, added on Sky Sports News: "When Liverpool sacked Kenny I thought that they would be knocking on the door, and sure enough they have."

but yeah the people who think Wigan are fighting relegation because of Martinez are pretty much braindead

Oh, I'm not doubting that we'd consider him. Most of this site have considered him. It makes complete sense to do so.

I'm just saying to jump from 'he is being contacted' to 'he's gonna get us relegated' is extreme.
