So....Who's Optimistic For The Season Ahead ?

I'm more upbeat about our prospects than many of you because I think the squad, even without the new additions we'll get, is capable of improving quite a bit on last season. It's true that we've yet to see whether Rodgers can make that happen, but he has literally decades of coaching experience and some very impressive references from the likes of Mourinho and Del Bosque.

Keep the faith.

I'm even off to Anfield next week to watch us thrash FC nobody!
 
No, not feeling optimistic at all.
In fact I think this season is going to be as bad, Premier League wise, as last season.
That said I do think BR is a good appointment and if given time to build & mould, he could be very successful here. I definitely agree with Rosco that the squad is bloated and until that is sorted out, we're not going to get back into the top four, never mind winning the league.

Why allow yourself to feel negative about a sequence of events you CANT foretell and CANT influence.
Montpellier just won the French league with a core of young players you never heard of six months ago, ahead of PSG the second richest club in the world and Lyon and Marseille champions league perenials.
They won it with a coach with a really average cv who made his name coaching kids.

And yet KNOWING this. KNOWING that anything is possible. KNOWING that a team can come from 3 nil down to win the European cup. KNOWING that NOTHING is decided. You all choose to believe we cant do it.

Well fuck that. We have a core of young inexperienced players who could just turn out to be brilliant:
Kelly
Henderson
Carroll
Shelvey
Borini
Coates
Sterling
Suso
Alongside a bunch of excellent yes EXCELLENT players who have proved they can cut it
Lucas
Agger
Skrtel
Johnson
Reina
We have a bright young manager who doesnt have the same miserable circle of failure beliefs you lot do.
We have two of the best players in the premiership in Gerrard and Suarez. We have said that we are still trying to sign a couple of players ONE of whom we know is one of the highest thought of midfielders in the league.
And then finally we have a few players who are mostly responsible for our doom mongerings. But they arent as bad as people seem to be remembering and if they get incrimentally better we have a really solid core of players who can challenge.
Adam
Downing
Cole
Enrique.
And ultimately its 38 games.
Even if we lose all 8 against the top 4 thats still 90 points to play for.
And I believe that with a manager who plays possession football we can do great things if all this clicks together.

We might be shit. We might struggle. But i'll fucking throw myself off that bridge when we get there.
For now its WIN some football games. Thats all.
I will believe it will all click because why the fuck not.

Imagine if we all did that? So much positive energy man, maybe we couldnt lose.

Weve got really good players. We need to trust in them. We need to believe in them.
We might just perform miracles.

i havnt seen enough of borini, can he play on the left in a front 3? its a good team, although id like to replace adam maybe, he's a bit too inconsistant

Both are more likely to score goals cutting in from the left, so if it were up to me I'd have them both on the left and hope the opposition don't notice or are too confused to react.

If we win on Thursday are we in the groups? I'm in a minority but I like the Europa League if we're in it.
 
There's just not enough to justify optimism. That's not to say some can feel optimisitic, but that's another matter.
 
I'm not optimistic. I think the squad needed a much bigger overhaul than it looks like it's going to get.

I'd like to have seen Downing, Adam, Carroll, and Johnson all sold, and funds reinvested in young foreign talents (yeh, I know we've been trying with at least Carroll, but I'm just saying what would've made me optimisitc). We're not going to do anything next season anyway, so we might as well have been radical and given reason for excitement.
 
I actually believe we will do well this season. Here's why:
  • We will get a lot more out of Downing (not really very difficult).
  • Adam will improve and be available for the entire season.
  • Lucas will be back (even if not back to normal, he will be better than Spearing)
  • Suarez will not have an 8 game ban.
  • We will not hit the post 30+ times.
  • Carroll will stay and will play his socks off.
  • Borini will be a tidy player for us - an improvement on Kuyt.
  • Agger and Skrtel are not going anywhere.
This all translates into at least 4th place. I even believe that we will be top 6 after the first 5 games. You will see that our style of play frustrates the heck out of City, Arsenal and United.

We're on our fucking way chaps. Believe.

  • Gerrard will hopefully not be as injury prone as he's been.
  • Shelvey, Suso and Sterling look like they've stepped up another gear and in my opinion should be getting a good bit of game-time this season.
  • We have a lot of young good-quality squad players now (Wisdom, McLaughlin, Kelly, Robinson, Shelvey, Suso, Sterling, Ibe, Pacheco - only Shelvey and Kelly out of these guys really featured last year) so our priority when buying should be with the aim of slotting straight into the first-team.
 
With the current squad and especially if Caroll leaves, we wont do better than 8th.
Im coming to Liverpool in november, I would be surprised if we re in the top half of the league...

Maybe the lizards shorted Facebook to fuck and they'll stick a few billion our way, or they'll engineer a massive global financial crisis for short term gains again. I hope so, coz all this offloading anyone earning any money and replacing them all with Borini is a massive bucket of AIDS.
