Suarez' future

Today and recent form in general has had me thinking, as crucial as CL qualification will be to his future, I think the quartet of him, Sturridge, Sterling and Coutinho has the potential to dominate the league (and maybe Europe) for years to come.

Do people think this will play as much a part? It's an exciting quartet to break up and walk away from.

Hmm, if he's hell bent on a move, he'll probably want to move regardless of what's going on here. But we can be hopeful that he's much happier here than he was last season. And more importantly, we can be hopeful that with his now seriously inflated value, not many clubs will be inclined to make a bid. It will take Bale money for us to sell him, and I don't think we will see any team spend that kind of money this summer.

So much will depend on what we do between now and the end of the season. If we, for example, finish a close Top 3 and win the FA Cup then he may be persuaded to stay. He's happy here, his family is happy here and he's loved by our fans and players alike. However, if Real or Barca come calling then that is a dream for most Latin players.

Hope so.
But it'll obviously depend on where we end up in the league, as well as who we recruit in the summer more than how the attacking group makes him feel.
We're so inconsistent at the moment, unfortunately.

Don't want to think about it. I would rather he was still here next season. Spurs antics this season have proven that sometimes its better to keep the world class player you have rather than trying to buy a bunch of new ones.

That depends entirely on which stage of the rebuilding process you are, and what utility that player has served to you so far. If you are (a) far away from a title challenge; or (b) have already extracted substantial utility from that player (in winning titles), it makes sense to cash in.

If you're however on the verge of a title challenge, and the player in question has at least 2-3 years of world class football left in him, it makes no sense to cash in regardless of how much is offered. That's the position in we are now.

Spurs were in a tricky position. (a) Bale was certain to leave, and (b) they didn't have CL football and were at least 3-4 top class signings away from sustaining a title challenge even if they did keep Bale. All things considered, it made sense for them to sell Bale and use the money to strengthen their squad. What went wrong is that they made the wrong big money signings. I still don't think its really gone tits up there though. Still a load of talent in that squad, and with some good management, they can be back in the mix soon.

We should (fingers crossed) be in a very different position to Spurs come May. If we finish in the top 4 within 6-8 points of the winners, you'd have to consider us very capable of sustaining a title challenge for the next 2-3 years. In that scenario, its stupid to want to sell Suarez at any price. We want him spearheading that challenge.

If however we'd struggled this season, and finished 15-20 points off the top, it would've made all the sense in the world to cash in on him and use the money to rebuild.

Macca interviewed him for BT - he came across happy enough, settled family, loved the league and the club.

Still seems disgruntled about the media's perception of him but I honestly think that will be forgotten if he keeps this up - he'll do the clean sweep of individual honours this year.

That swivel & shot from the corner today was outrageous; If he wins us the league, he's free to do what he wants, wherever he wants.

.

That's the link I posted above - McManaman's interview for anyone who missed it.

I think he'll stay if we secure CL football and finish within touching distance of a title, but a bid from Real will tempt him regardless. He owes us nothing and he could leave with his head held high.

He's a mercenary that doesn't give a toss about the club, we saw that in the summer. Let's not fool ourselves. He's gone, most likely. You'd be naive to hink otherwise...(and I want to believe)

I think it's tough to call anyone mercenary for wanting to make more money for themselves and their families (and usually a degree of philanthropy comes later too). Pretty much anyone here would do the same if another company came along offering to double their income.

I've said it all along, if we finish in the Top 3 (so no early return for tired players after the WC), make the FAC final (or preferably win it - and yes I know I said it is relatively unimportant compared to Top 4 but it would still be great to win it) and Suarez wins the individual plaudits he deserves (including Ballon D'Or - though the next one is not until 2015 is it ?) then he'll stay (but we'll need to up his salary again).

However that said for most Hispanics / Latinos playing for Real or Barca is the pinnacle, it's the dream they grew up with, so I can still imagine if one of them were in for him he'd still go.

If we get top 4 and CL footy he'll stay. End off.

But, should we fail to do that he will probably leave. And if he's going to leave he'll cost the or more than Bale.
There are maybe 2-3 teams that can afford that. Bayern, Real and PSG.

All y'all can fuck off. Suarez stays. I will stick to that naive loyalty because well, he's fucking great and one of the greatest player to ever pull on the shirt. He stays, we win a few leagues, another big ears or two and then remind ourselves that Fergie must really not be enjoying himself.

I was convinced he was going at the end of the season. Now I'm not so sure. Lovely.

i honestly, and perhaps naively, think he'll stay, we'll finish 3rd and play some more incredible football on the way, he'll want to be a part of it

Stevie nearly left for Chelsea, had virtually put pen to paper, and yet he's still here now.

Would like to think he'd stay although if Madrid or Barca come knocking he's off.

Would be a real shitter to lose him assuming we get CL and in the title mix. However, short term I can't see us beating Chavs or City to the title.

I just did his tea leaves and it turns out he's going to get run over by a beer truck in March.

Soz, but I'm always bang on with these things.
