Sunlit Uplands

Its also funny that in the Republic, we're becoming less and less Catholic, schools are becoming more secular, the next census could well see a big drop in numbers of people identifying as Catholic, laws are less influenced by religious thinking etc. And in NI they're associating Catholicism with wanting to be part of that.

Yes I just heard it, I’ve never seen data on it myself! But if you were to assume that middle-class protestants are the people who are most likely to identify as British, rather than northern Irish, then maybe it would make sense as one explanation as to why the percentage of people identifying as British is declining.

It would be nice to have some explanations that don’t just revolve around breeding rates. Are Catholics really still having more babies than protestants?
I read that Catholic families were bigger than protestants, until now where both groups tend to have the same number of babies. But the Catholic population is a bit younger in average so there's probably another, er, bump for want of a better word, coming with there now being more Catholics of child bearing age.

It's weird how I find this stuff interesting now whereas when I was younger studying population dynamics etc I thought it was boring as fuck.

It’s because you are also boring now. When you are boring, other boring things seem interesting.

When you thought that demographics was boring, it is because you were an interesting person. Now that you are not an interesting person anymore, you think that boring things are interesting.

As good an explanation as any.

I'm not sure I was ever interesting...

My son is banging a northern irish prod whose from money and now lives in London. I mean i accept it's a small sample size but it makes sense.

I mean how many of the northern irish lot on here still live there. Stevie and Ryan. Aus. Dr Mac. Kent. Oncy (RIP) M25 ish. Athens. Athens. Is it only Bradley left?

If you're educated enough to support Liverpool, you're more likely to leave. I wonder if there's a bunch of Northern Irish people that haven't left on one of the Everton forums?

Does she accept his small sample size?

Me. I moved to Birmingham in November, and came back 3 months later.

And me.

I don't think that's true at all. Northern Ireland is becoming more secular, just as the South is.

All the cool kids stay in NI.

Lived in London and Washington DC, both for a year while I was a student. Probably would have moved back to DC or to Maine but kept putting it off. Don't regret it. USA has turned to shit.

I moved from my home town of Liverpool a few years ago, work related. Now live in the South. As I’ve matured (ok got old 😛) I’ve become much more melancholy about my liverpool home/roots and the people. I go back whenever I can and enjoy it.
just sayin

I'm one of the very few people i grew up with who still lives in Merseyside. Everyone fucked off for better opportunities. I kept getting lucky round here... Which in a long term plan isn't that great really... I want to move somewhere a bit out of the way now, and that would have been a lot easier if I'd moved just about anywhere else twenty years ago.

I get melancholy every time I go back home - but then I grew up in Larne.

The thought of ever having to live there again fills me with great fear.
Larne doesn't really have a lot going for it... to put it mildly.

I’m really glad you stayed in Liverpool Woland. If you’d gone somewhere else you’d probably have accumulated great wealth and power, imperiling the fate of humankind.

I’m in a Facebook Group called “Memories of Larne” or something like that were people post new and old photos of Larne and talk about the glory days of when Larne was a shopping mecca and how it’s a wonderful place…

It’s very surreal - there’s a thread asking members to name all the business and shops that are no longer there with like 1.4k responses and a regular update when Dolphins are spotted in the sea between Larne & Ballygally!!!

Those who believe in the great reset are feeling smug right now.

Parity on all the currencies. May as well merge into a master currency...

Or at least peg to one another.

I’m sure if I typed “pegging one to another” I’d be unlikely to get info on currency markets…

Yep.., might as well have said something about “strapping on”.
