The Donkey

The way Salah dummied the Toulouse defender before shooting into the opposite corner from where the goalkeeper was moving towards just screamed “experienced striker” to me. He looked like he could have done this with eyes closed; just based on his experience he knew exactly what each opponent was going to do. Made me think of Klinsmann or Lewandowski at the tail end of their careers.

Such a shame he didn't put that away, as that's what the conversation is now about (cf. Haaland's miss a couple of weeks back, though no-one talks about that). He had given himself so much time he could have taken an extra touch. However that shouldn't detract (as Klopp pointed out) from the superb way he went past the defender and keeper, and in fact his overall game. He's going to be a class act for us for many years.

I've never LOL-ed so much in a match in a long while, esp when he missed that goal. actually beginning to like him just for sheer comedy value.

He's surely the most entertaining player in the Premier League. The difference now is we're seeing eight touches of class before a donkey touch. Last year it was more two to one.

As for his finishing it's going to remain the main focus for discussion around Nunez. Touching the ball three times before shooting seems to depletes all his concentration and he's better when he can finish first time, or after one touch. That said, he's made significant leaps forward from last year and he looks on the right trajectory to becoming the player we hoped for.

Regardless of his miss yesterday his finishing has improved greatly this season. Just look at his numbers for what he has been expected to score and his actual goals. Just an improvement all over. He's gonna be class.

That’s severely inflated from the two wonder strikes against Newcastle that even had him laughing at the absurdity of them! :D

He’s arguably a better team player now.

Yes, he definitely is, but it's partially because he doesn't carry the same individual threat when one vs one, especially on the counter. Salah would be the most advanced player in the past, now it's usually nunez, and the reason is because Salah isn't as fast anymore. He could either adapt and play in service of that reality or he'd just, well, keep dribbling into a defender.

He misses too many easy chances. There's just no getting away from that. He's also massively improved.

He now needs to fix the easiest thing to fix, and be boring at the last moment.
