The new number 9…

Weird debate actually because the vast majority of all goals are scored from inside the box !

PL
  • 2019/20: 87.8% inside the box, 12.2% outside.
  • 2020/21: 88.0% inside the box, 12.0% outside.
  • 2021/22: 86.6% inside the box, 13.4% outside.
  • 2022/23: 86.4% inside the box, 13.6% outside.

Most goals in general are scored inside the box because it's really hard to score goals from outside the penalty area, unless you're Stevie G.
But I'm talking about a finisher, someone who can get on the end of cut backs and through passes.

Or maybe I'm talking about some magical position that no one has witnessed before?

Well the best we have for that (and I've mentioned the stats numerous times before as they constitute a very high percentage of all of his goals - all scored within 6-7m) is ...... drum roll ... Nunez ! So maybe we're keeping him ! I can only imagine the furore on 6CM if we start the season with him.

Saw some rumors last night that we want to offer 100 mill + Jota to Newcastle. Most likely BS (as most times), but its an interesting thought. I'd do it in all honesty. Jota can't stay fit, will be 29 this season and has 2 years left on his deal.

I asked Google Gemini to do a report on available strikers and if they'd be good for us, based on experience, cost, scoring history, and our play style. Pulled data across multiple sites.

It reckons Gyokeres.

So it's either a very sensible idea, or Gemini has gone "goal mean good"

ChatGPT preferred Ekitike.

There's been noise round Jao Pedro for months, even before he got arsey in training. He'd play more at Liverpool than at Nufc and we are a much more exciting prospect.

Not watched him enough but would prefer someone to lead the line more than link up. Nunez was great at stretching teams when he could stay onside and it'd be annoying to finally get more width and have FBs pinging in balls if nobody's there to finish them.

Jota is a great option if a proper break has mended all his knocks but maybe that's wishful thinking. In any case, probably something to sort out next summer.

The problem with Isak remaining dimly on the radar as a 5% chance of transfer, is that he’s precisely what we need and any other fucker seems a pale comparison of his pace, deadliness and classy link up play.

Could have seen this before the Wirtz signing. As you say, he's more of a versatile link player than a finisher and I agree that I'd like to see someone to get on the end of passes and crosses from Wirtz, Mo, Kerkez, Frimpong, et al.

Makes sense to me now, in hindsight, why we were never linked that seriously with Cunha despite him ticking a lot of boxes (versatile, release clause, etc.). We were hunting bigger fish in deeper waters with Wirtz.

Lets see what Hughes has planned. The club needs to start getting rid of players, theres alot on the books. £150-200m in sales could get 2 to 3 more players.
There is a plan and they're working to it
