The new number 9…

Al-Hilal linked with Darwin. They play in the Club World Cup so it might happen quickly if they decide to go for him.

Oshimen not keen on Saudi it seems.

The thing I'd be thinking of I was Ekitike is they've just signed Liam Delap and given him the no 9. Clearly he's the guy they think will start.

Least with us it'll probably be less money, but better players and probably a guarantee to start and win stuff

If money is more important than that, then fair enough, The mentality is wrong for the club and we move on

Random thought...

Not one that I'm advocating for mind, but it just occurred to me.

It couldn't be that Mo is our new number 9, could it? Frimpong on the right, Bradley behind, Mo up front?

Wouldn't have thought so. He played there a couple of times for us and was a bit meh.

We’re likely selling Nunez, maybe replacing him - if not we’re sticking with Jota & Diaz and a false 9 type set up.

Yeah, I'm not really into it, but the more I think about it, the less I'm sure that we're splashing the cash on Frimpong, Kerkez, Wirtz and a new 9.

I'm trying to put myself in Slot's shoes and seeing if there's some clever way of messing around with what we've got.

We know he's tactically flexible, so I'm starting to wonder if maybe Wirtz might play the false 9 when we're nominally 433, but also be the tip of the diamond in a 442, or as I think someone else suggested, be a fluid 532 with Grav dropping back into CB, Frimpong and Kerkez as WBs, Macca, Szob and Wirtz as the midfield 3, and Mo and Gakpo up front?

We're definitely after a 9, it just depends whether we think there's value. I think it would be foolish to not get one, but I'm not paid the big bucks, or any bucks for that matter

I'm a bit of a tactical idiot, but aren't these three formations the same thing?

I hope we are, as I think it would be foolish to - but whereas the links to Kerkez, Wirtz etc seem solid, the striker ones seem mostly paper-talk

I think we're seeing what other teams do. Ideally in these 10 days we'll get the 3 over the line (kerkez, frimpong and wirtz), and then when the window re-opens go all in for the striker.
The likes of nunez and diaz might be have left this window as well. So rather than going all in on a striker, we might be thinking theres a LW more fitting and skimp a little on a striker. Like we might go for Ekitike alone if diaz stays, but diaz goes then we need to go Fofana & Joao Pedro (as an example).

We get these first 3 over the line, then we can refocus

I don't see why TBH. "Moving initial talks" sounds like the very early stages of negotiations, if indeed there are any. If we're at all interested (and I hope we are - I really, REALLY don't want the Arse or anyone else other than us to get Sesko) he's still fair game unless and until he actually signs.

I didn't really know anything about Ekiteke other than what I'd read on here. Then I heard what Thierry Henry said about him. Then I watched a YouTube of him.
I always think it's best to sign players who look like they've played football before. That's always been my mantra.
£100m and 'a project' doesn't sound right.
This bloke is one to avoid.
