The result was fantastic and deserved.. An old school european away tie where we just defend and hopeful get a bit of luck in attack.. The only time inter looked dangerous was directly after the disallowed goal.
Have to say I expected more from inter but credit to our defending.
One thing is though, this kinda negative attacking style is all good and dandy away to inter at the San siro but if weplay this brand of negative football at home to Brighton then nothing changes

It's hard being the bastion of supporter morality and integrity, but I guess someone's gotta do it.

It was a very good result against a decent team with an exceptional home record. Considering the obvious lack of confidence in the side I thought we did really well. There are still obvious flaws in the team that I don't think can be addressed without transfers; Konate had a good game but he's had them before; at this age he should have ironed out the brainfarts and he hasn't. We need at least one more wide player who can stretch the play and beat people. I do think we need a great physical presence in the middle of the pitch also. But it's something to build on at least. I hope we persist with the formation and, if fit, the personnel, which means no way back into the side for either Salah or Gakpo.
I'm pretty sure he'll be back to 4-3-3 soon enough. Gakpo and Salah both out may have forced his hand.
A win at home to Quarabag should be enough for top 8 which is likely to be 15 pts, so lower than the 16 forecast.
That and a draw away at Marseille should seal it beyond doubt.
Course we will. This is who we are now, we've only been doing it every game since Ipswich away bar the odd game against Madrid/Spurs where we've played on the front foot with intensity from minute 1 to 80/90.

I agree. Ignore the fall - he was just trying to draw attention to it. The pull stopped him trying to run towards the ball. The shirt pulling rules are quite clear these days and relate to the whole "creating a triangle in the shirt" concept.

He got a lineup right once after getting dogs abuse from Ryan for posting it. That was years ago. He's probably due another one in another couple of years. Broken clocks and all that.
I think it may be hard to accept, but step 1 of restoring confidence is defensive solidity and being boring. Step 2 is defending better on set pieces.
Step 3 is going forward. We are definitely losing a lot of attacking fluency. Horrendously bad at bypassing the bus. I'm not sure Slot has it in his locker to innovate going forward and solve this problem. Bradley's chance was an example of this.

Imo none of the new signings were bought with pressing in mind. They're more creators/finishers, based on the assumption that we'd still be controlling games.
Was a fairly dull game again. Inter a bit disappointing, they seemed a little too wary of us but we won our battles and showed better physicality than lately. Ekitike was busy and the defence sound. Gomez and Robbo did well. Wirtz and Bradley changed the game coming on. On the flipside, was Isak even playing?
BUT I'm not convinced you can play 4 CMs every week. It's a bit odd and any side would look more solid if you do that.

Inter are 3rd in the Scudetto 1 point off top (same games played) and a far superior GD, Inter have won their last 3 games in Italy 4-0, 5-1 and 2-0 and only lost away at Atletico to a 93rd minute goal (a match they dominated with ⅔ possession and shaved the shots too). They were no pushovers and started the match favourites.
However we pressed well, controlled the game for all but 10 mins, our defence/midfield hardly gave them a sniff and we had by far the better opportunities (as well as having more shots 12 (5) to their 9 (2) and an xG of 1.43 to their 0.47) and were denied a legitimate goal as well as earning a clear penalty - even if very soft. So no, we were not in any way lucky against a very good side.
When we're shite everyone lays into us (deservedly) but when we're not then the least we can do is give them due credit.

Clearly not. Get help before you ruin relationships that you actually give a fuck about as you clearly are fighting some demons and this sort of toxic behaviour will spill into every facet of your life.
I thought the opposite TBF. We actually pressed far better than of late. Still a little disconnect between midfield and defence but most of the reason they had difficulty playing out was because we did press !

Perhaps this question belongs in the Tactical Room thread but I don't think I'll meet the high intellectual bar so I'll leave it here.
Does every player need to be a great at pressing?
It's great when you can successfully blend work ethic, tactical acumen and skill which is what we saw with Klopp's best teams but that's pretty tough and you need to be committed to that vision.
I said many times over the years that unless we were at 100%, running around like mad outworking the opposition, we seemed to lose our competitive advantage. We weren't always good enough to win on quality alone. That is something that's hard to sustain. The other elite clubs press, of course, but it wasn't necessarily as front and center.
Now we're in a kind of weird inbetween. It feels like we've tried to de-emphasise the pressing and work ethic and focus on quality but now we lack in both areas. We need water carriers to balance things out - we don't have enough - and those in team on the strength of their skill aren't delivering.
The midfield is a great example. They're all samey all-rounders whose profiles overlap too much. There isn't quite anyone that can give the others a solid foundation and as a group, they're not good enough to overwhelm the opposition on quality alone.
