Seriously, watch him defend...

Now, watch it again, & again.

This is simply stunning defending. In the space of fewer than twenty seconds, he won us that game, more so than Salah or Lloris' mistake did.

Think about how many decisions he made there, in an instant.

I'll break it down (in one long sentence cos it happened that quickly that there is no room for full stops here!).

We are outnumbered, Sissoko & Son are running full pelt towards our goal, Sissoko has the ball, only VVD is back, he initially squeezes the play & cuts off the pass to Son, by firstly, unbelievably, slowing, his run down so he doesn't overtake them, then arcing his run across Son so there's no pass for Sissoko to make, that pushes back towards Sissoko & times it perfectly so that Sissoko has to use his weaker foot, then, with yet more impeccable timing, the split second Sissoko makes that switch to his weaker foot he dives in just far enough that he throws him off his shot, without making any contact whatsoever.

If we win the league in a few weeks time, that will be a huge reason why, in that few fleeting moments, Virgil Van Dijk won us that match, & three HUGE points, & he didn't even have to touch the ball to do it.

This is a truly remarkable player we have, the best defender in the world by a LONG way, & easily the best I have ever seen.

He’s our centre half,
He’s our number 4,
Watch him defend,
And watch him score,
He can pass the ball,
Calm as you like,
He’s Virgil Van Dijk,
Virgil Van Dijk.

Virgil has been a bargain if we do the double. It’ll be down to him and Manè.

Robertson tackle in the first half was equally impressive...

had no right with that... absolutely no right..

Virgils awareness of whats going on, both behind him and the intentions of Sissoko, is great in this but I'd honestly be disappointed in any defender playing for us that wasn't able to do similarly well

Rio Ferdinand was excellent in these situations..

Thats who VVD reminds me of... Ferdinand in his pomp..

Son must be pissed as his pass in to Sissoko was perfect and he deserved an immediate return pass into space from Moussa who was his usual greedy (head down and run) self. I wonder if he is rewarded on number of metres run with the ball, he does it well but most of the time it leads to nothing.

Robertson did well to get back to ensure Son didn't get an easy rebound is Sissoko got his shot off.

I remember France playing on a Friday night in the first game of the Euro's a few years back. A load of us in the pub had France -1 backed. A hefty bet by our standards. Sissoko raced clear and missed a late one on one to go 2-0 up and win us the bet. As he ran clear, I immediately thought back to that moment. Good man Moussa, shit the bed again.

What is it with Sissokos?

That other fucker they had in midfield made Jordan Henderson look like fucking Gerrard, I think he had about one shot a season, always off target.

And then there was Momo....

At least Momo scored one in 51. Better than 80. He also had that game where he bullied the Chelsea midfield on his own. Then went half blind and proper shit.

And the game where he singlehandedly steamrollered the Barcelona - that's BARCELONA - midfield. Not to mention the 2006 Cup Final which, without Momo doing his 300 Spartans act in midfield, would have slipped out of our reach well before Stevie G got his chance(s).

Momo Sissoko YNWA.

Undeniably, but he was *so* good at his (admittedly limited) job before the eye injury. The very definition of an unsung hero IMHO.
