Its strange how quickly things change in football. Everton looked like shite right before transfer deadline day. 2 loan signings later they look pretty good. They were good today but I think they're squad is to thin to make the top 4. If Lukaku gets injured they're fucked.

Just goes to show how a couple of players can make a massive difference.

If we sign 2 top class midfielders it would make a huge difference to us to.

If Suarez gets injured we're...

What point? The only difference is that Sturridge will be back in a month but we're still at least one striker short.
At the moment we're on the same boat Everton are in. Difference is they can bring on Jelavic. Our best sub is Aspas.

Everton were quite a good team under Moyes as well and played some good football (despite what everyone says) so I don't think it's simply a case of Martinez coming in and working miracles. The emergence of Barkley coupled with the Fellani windfall allowing him to bring in Barry, Lukaku and McCarthy has been a big help too. I do like Martinez though and would normally like to see him do well, which is now difficult because he's at Everton.

They've potentially got another 20 odd million coming there way if they sell Baines so I guess whether or not they can keep this kind of thing up next season will be to an extent determined by how they spend that money.

Regardless, they'll fall away at some point because they simply can't afford to keep up with everyone else.

he can be a smug cunt for once, and i won't mind:

Can Lukaku be recalled?
I'd imagine so. . And given Chelsea lack of firepower I can see it happening.

Furthermore if Everton are in the top 4 after Christmas they will be a direct rival to Chelsea.. How do you weaken a direct rival? recall one the players that has been instrumental to their season form..

It would be a pretty stupid deal by Everton if there's a recall clause in his contract.

Jose Mourinho confirmed that there is no recall clause in Romelu Lukaku's loan deal at Everton, meaning he will not appear in a Chelsea shirt ...daily mail

Why ?.. they dont own him, West Ham had one with Carroll...

You get them with many loan deals...

It would be pretty stupid of Chelsea not to have a recall option. .

Thats kinda my point... we have to be very wary of them.. they are serious challengers for the top 4..

Hopefully Barry and Lukaku will be recalled in January...

Yeah mate I was talking to those who are dismissing them. As I said at the start of the season, they will be there or thereabouts.

See my edited post.
It is stupid by Chelsea but Everton wants to make sure that they have a striker for the entire season.
We have a recall option in Borini's contract but not in Suso's because he's less important I think.

Jesus, Everton have just about got the best loan deal ever then. The Barca youngster wasn't a bad deal either.

Everton only beaton once by a good side.

Serious top 4 chance.

We went to Arsenal and got spanked.

They deservedly got a win at OT and a draw at highbury.

It seems it's only us that are really shit when it comes to loan signings....cissokho, moses, sahin.

I expect us to drop points with the same fixtures too over Christmas.. Everton are looking dangerous.. what is their fixture list like over the Christmas period ?

Everton:
-- Fulham, Swansea, Sunderland, Southampton (all home games except away to Swansea)

Not a bad run-in, but not the easiest, compared to the Mancs.

Mancs:
-- Villa, West Ham, Hull, Norwich (all away except West Ham)

The Mancs can't top the table even if they snag all 12 points from that stretch. That's a remarkably good thing.

Arsenal:
-- City, Chelsea, West Ham, Newcastle (all away except Chelsea at home)

Everton showed that Arsenal can be made to look ordinary (at least in the first half) if you just go at them without showing too much respect for their midfield. The Gunners could drop 6 points in this stretch - enough to cost them the lead if City or Chelsea sweep all 12 on offer.

Chelsea:
-- Palace, Arsenal, Swansea, Liverpool (all home except Arsenal away)

Could be top of the table at the end of this stretch if they sweep all 12 points.

City:
-- Arsenal, Fulham, Liverpool, Palace (all home except Fulham away)

Remarkably similar fixtures to Chelsea. They have a better chance than Chelsea to sweep all 12 points.

Spurs:
-- Liverpool, Southampton, West Brom, Stoke (all home except Southampton)

They'll score 1 goal - against West Brom.

Newcastle:
-- Southampton, Palace, Stoke, Arsenal (all home except Palace)

Alan Pardew is suddenly a saint again and (like the fans) looking all fucking smug once more. Hope they crash and burn down this stretch.

Southampton:
-- Newcastle, Spurs, Cardiff, Everton (all away except Spurs)

Tough run as well; they'd do well to keep ahead of Newcastle at the end.

Liverpool:
-- Spurs, Cardiff, City, Chelsea (all away except Cardiff)

The toughest run of the lot. 6 points from this list would be a decent haul, as it should be enough to keep us amongst the leaders. Fuck it - we're topping the table at the end of the year.

Everton were unbeaten and took 9 points from Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal and Tottenham

Newcastle also stay unbeaten in matches against Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Man Utd, picking up 10 points.

Cause for optimism ahead of our clashes with Tottenham, Chelsea and Man City?

well considering under rodgers we've taken something like 14 points for a possible 45 against the big teams you can't be too confident . In such a tight season it's an area we really need to improve .
