I'm also not saying that he handled it correctly, but isn't this in the "sincere apology" category instead of "lose your job and get publicly executed" ?
You are ignoring his history and the fact that a full on 'holding the face with both hands to plant a massive kiss on her lips' is in no way comparable to kisses on cheeks - even for Spanish/Italians !

They don’t kiss on the lips to basically strangers. And maybe yes it would be sincere apology but he hasn’t just ignored that line he’s actively attacked her and blamed her. It’s clear many are using this as an excuse for a pile on as he’s a piece of shit but it’s also absolutely a sackable offence imo.

She grabbed him, he grabbed her.. they lifted each other up admist a congratulatory hug. Then he grabbed her face and planted a kiss on her. All in about 10 seconds.
It was a moment which the Rubiales got too carried away.
It is comparable with "kissing strangers in an act of jubilation" in years gone by.
Problem is two fold
A) It's really not socially acceptable anymore.
B) He should have publically apologised, said he got carried away, he was over joyed at the success etc etc. He's since been humbled etc.
Problem is now, he doubled down in that imfamous speech.
