Coutinho- what now?

Aldo:

Given how Liverpool are playing right now, Aldridge has questioned if Coutinho will be seen in Klopp’s starting line up for some time.
‘He will probably be in the squad (for the next game against Manchester City) and it will probably be on the bench, but that’s the right call for me. At the moment, the lads in the starting line-up are playing so well, he needs to wait,’ Aldridge wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo.
‘That’s how it should be, too. You look at the fixtures, and if the players do well, he might have a bit of a wait on his hands. Sevilla, Burnley… in fact, it could easily be that his first start is against Leicester in the cup in a few weeks time.’
Aldridge added that he doesn’t expect Coutinho to stay at Liverpool beyond this season, but called on Reds fans to enjoy him while he’s still at the club.

‘The move over there didn’t happen for him but I’m sure he’ll give us a really good season and wave goodbye next summer, because Barca will come back for him, he’s too good to be ignored,’ he added.

‘I understand why some fans are a bit unsure about him coming back but it’ll only take a belter from outside the area, and we’ll all be singing his name again.

I don't ever remember a situation like this. I think he's burned some bridges by fucking over Klopp in the press, that'll take alot of getting over on his part. And also as said, it must be really strange for Firmino, I hope we don't alienate him by giving Coutinho stick - as we saw with the Twitter/Instagram picture last week.

All will be forgiven if he starts putting in performances straight away, but the key is how he reacts to the inevitable initial stick he gets. If he lets his head drop then he's on a hiding to nothing.

Yes. As for Firmino, I suspect it's not that big a problem. I don't think there's a great connection between them off the pitch - they're really different characters (as are the wives), with different interests, and although there's a bit of socialising I don't think either would care that much if the other wasn't there.

(don't bother with the link, the website is a fucking nightmare), here's some of the ridiculous comments:

Err those comments all appear to be aimed at coutinho not the flabby melt?

Yeah I know, but it's still kind of by association. That was my point. It might be water off a ducks back for Firmino, or he might choose to protect his mate. Who knows.

Firmino:

"I prefer to not think of this [Coutinho leaving] because it would be awful. He's a great player but also a great friend to me," Firmino said. "It is normal that great teams are interested in his football but my concentration is now on the team.

It's understandable that they are friends and close and all that, but I'm sure Firmino is aware enough to know that, despite this amazing friendship, Coutinho was willing to cast aside all of the great times they have shared together at Liverpool, and cruelly leave Firmino behind to join Barcelona.

According to the Catalan based newspaper Sport, Coutinho are considering to blacklist himself from Champions League with Liverpool to pave the way for a Winter move to Barcelona.

So, this is probably bullshit, but still, it's quite incredible how much we must have pissed off Barcelona in all of this, they just won't let it go it seems.

They are acting like a spoiled brat really, one that didn't get the candy he craved..

Indeed, they say he's no longer crestfallen - he's upgraded to 'monumentally angry'

Ooh.

The arrogance and sense of entitlement of Barca has really gone beyond the pale. I think it is time for clubs to take a stand and report them collectively for their particularly cynical and conniving modus operandi.

I think the Barca press have dug such a big hole for themselves on this that they have to keep up a lot of the bull shit to salvage their credibility as they crawl out of it.
As I said before, not many of us believed their many pronouncements that Coutinho was about to sign so why should we believe them now?

Edit and I don't doubt that Barca are complicit in it all

Filthy Phil is cutting off his nose to spite his face if he thinks that avoiding playing in the Champions League will make him more attractive to Barcelona in the next window. I'd pop at least another £10m onto his price tag if his Champions League eligibility is still intact come January.

Yeah, that's probably the gist of it.

So am I correct that all this stuff is coming from either the Spanish or Brazillian press? It clearly smacks of bollocks but then again if it is bollocks it most definitely has been fed to them by Barca - That's fucking snidey and frankly pathetic. Quite proud of the reds in how they've handled this actually.

Barca - We want Coutinho
Reds - No You can't have him.... Five year contract... Unlucky...

Alot of players act all boldly when they are 10,000 miles away on international duty, then they return to their clubs and they have to sing a different tune. Once they get back into training in familiar surroundings theys settle down amd the storm blows over. I think this week will decide how Coutinho is treated for the rest of his time at the club, he hasn't passed the point of no return yet but he's getting awfully close. I dont think he will start against City but if he's not in the squad it's a bad sign.

There's no way he's going to be in the squad. No chance.

His agent will probably now throw a brick through his window, claim it's been thrown by a Scouser, and have a pic of Coutinho's wife and kids, with broken glass in their hair, weeping as they hug each other for comfort in this cruel and heartless land.

Keep the little shit on the bench and play him in the league cup for a while I say.....

We seem to be doing ok thus far, make him earn his place in the team again.

Surely we need to keep the lil' scamp's match fitness up so he can keep his place in the Brazil team?

People using the worst Arsenal team in recent memory as evidence that 'we don't need him' need to wake the fuck up.

It's a long season and very few teams will be as accommodating as Wenger's bottlers.

You missed the:
"But but, we have already arranged the unveiling, already printed the shirts.

Ooooh the indignity, we are Barcelona!! Bow before greatness! Sell you cheeky scamps!! SELL HIM TO US!"

He and Salah seemed to be developing a good understanding in the games they played together in preseason.
Let's hope that continues as there will be games when we need a bi of magic and understanding to unlock defenses

This, so much this.
I was really looking forward to seeing that Firmino, Salah, Mane and Coutinho diamond in attack. On paper it looks unstoppable.

From what I saw of the highlights Modo - those 4 up front in that diamond - I got a massive erection. It was so powerful too.
