id love to see him on the right wing, its one of our weaker positions and he'd be class there. itl never happen though
Who? Kelly? Why?
i just think kuyt and henderson playing in that position cant take it round a player, something magic can deffinately do

magic
Because we don't have enough players that could play there so we play a defender?

Agree with Kuyt, but he's provided plenty of assists to prove you don't have to always take the ball round a player.

Still too early for henderson.

kelly is improving, but the england right back is better. he offers so much more going forward.
I'd rather a defender, wait for it...defend. Added bonus if he can add to our offensive side, something i think Kelly does anyway.

How many goals and/or assist has Johnson racked up since he joined us?

It's a little funny that we demand our defenders defend and then in the next breath complain about the lack of creativity in the team. I want the fullbacks to act almost as midfielders with the holding midfielder filling in the gaps they leave. Look at manu's fullbacks they get forwards and they have better wingers than we do. that said, Johnson 'should' earn back his place but bet any money he'll go straight into tue side.

you make it sound like kelly can't/doesn't attack. He rattled the post yesterday and continually tried to get forward.

Kelly is better defensively than glen, yes maybe not as quick going forward but johnson is caught out of position so often because he doesn't time his runs...he just fucking runs. Kelly waits and strikes like a cobra

At the end of the season Johnson won't be the England right back.

Yup, It'll either be Kyle Walker or Micah Richards. I'm guessing the latter.
Pearce doesn't seem to rate Kelly.

at the moment he is and rightly so. we have every reason to be cheerful about kelly, who is the future, but lets not forget about johnson, who is now a full internationl and one of the best full backs in the epl. i'd pick johnson over kelly any day of the week now.

If Micah Richards is ahead of Martin Kelly then something is seriously wrong.

I've not seen much of Walker.
That kid is good. He's a younger version of Johnson.

Kelly has it for me.

Johnson is a very useful player to have, but until he sorts out his defensive weaknesses then I think our back line is more settled without him.

is richards better than johnson? he's fucking massive these days -- as are most city players.
i was thinkin that before, he looks like the new batmobile
Has he developed a brain yet?
Yeah, kind of. He bulked up even more too, he's a beast. He's yet to face a top quality opponent but he has started the season well.

I think he had that physique when he was 12.

I remember him and Sturridge ripping our lot a new one in the FA Youth Cup Final, second leg, one year.

Luckily, we had enough of a lead from the first leg (when neither had played).

This.

The most impressive thing Johnson has done at our club (when fit) is swap flank to the left and not whisper a Dicky bird of complaint. I believe the unwritten rules of management are that the player in the role keeps his place until he plays a bad game and if so is replaced by the other option who has the same pressure applied. I think Kelly is the better player but im pleased we have the both of them.

I still regard Richards to be a bit brainless and clumsy, but I've not seen much of him at all in the last year and all City fans swear he's improved massively over that period. So I take it he's fulfilling his potential now and if Johnson doesn't get his shit sorted Richards will be lining up for England in Euro2012.

It'd be harsh to lay the blame solely with Johnson, but it's worth pointing out that since he came into the side the defence has been pretty poor. I know this has partly coincided with the departure of Sami and the arguable decline of Carra, but as a unit we haven't looked as compact, that was what was so pleasing against Arsenal, Enrique and Kelly both know when to tuck inside to make a central three. When Johnson was playing on the right and whoever was on the left, the two centre backs were constantly being stretched and dragged out of position.

I've liked Kelly from day one. I love how he imposes himself on the game. Young defenders often come in and try not to fuck up rather than play their own game. Kelly had the confidence and ability to show what he could do right from the off without any fuck ups.

Kyle Walker looks an excellent player. Looking forward to seeing how he does against United tomorrow. QPR fans loved him when he was there on loan, as did Villa fans during his spell there. He also looked jet healed for England U-21's during the summer.

Magic, but Kelly is a wonderful prospect and great back-up. By the looks of it we're settled on the RB position for years to come.
