Andrew Robertson our new left Back

How many assists do fullbacks generally have though? It seems a bit of a myth that they weigh in heavily - aside from top drawer attacking fullbacks, and then we're most likely sacrificing something defensively, on an already leaky backline.

Milner always supports the attack, works hard and overlaps and puts a decent ball in a fair amount of the time. I agree we could improve on delivery, from both full backs, but by and large I think we could do a with a full back who's alot more positionally sound and solid - which Milner obviously isn't so natural at.

Our attack when functioning, with the addition of one or two more players who weigh in, should have enough about it, without heavily relying on attacking brilliance at fullback. We could do with a bit of balance, in having one who's more attack minded, and one who is a natural defender and will tuck in and tighten the space when needs be. There's room for improvement definitely, but we need balance in that respect too.

It's not really about assists in terms of stats - I knew mentioning Dani Alves wasn't the best idea as he's a freak of nature and isn't your typical fullback - but how they can help the team overall.

I'm not saying Milner is a poor player or that he hasn't contributed more than his fair share. He's been excellent all things considered.

As you say, it's about balance.

On the right we have Clyne who is pretty solid but limited in his ability to contribute attacking wise. I'd like to see a natural left sided player that can help us stretch teams out and give us a genuine attacking outlet.

If we're going to get a LB and we are, I don't think it's a position we should scrimp on if there are top class options available.

Anyway, personally I'd look at buying a left back, defensive/domineering midfielder, a striker and a wide left forward/winger. Midfield has plenty of options, from Henderson, Lallana, Coutinho, Grujic (who has to figure more), Can and Wijnaldum. That's more or less two players per position, we just need a bit of steel in there.

Seems like Klopp wants to add another "Mane type player" for the left side and then move Coutinho more central.

We also need a new CB.

...both of which IMO are more urgent than LB. If we had Citeh-style funds I'd be happy to shoot for the moon on all our transfers, but we don't and IMO strengthening at LB is not our top priority.

I forgot about centre back, just about one of the most important positions we need to fill like..

I feel for Milner a lot. He's wrecked. We are guilty of shunting the ball out to him as well. He is always open and willing to receive it. I presume the opposition are also happy for us to do this. He always has space as the other team are standing off him. He won't sprint past you with it, he rarely over laps so it's not the end of the world him having it. Opposing teams would rather Milner have it at his feet in the left back position than say Coutinho have it in an advanced position.

Milner has done a fine job for us this season at LB. It's a pity we don't have any one else decent to allow him take a rest every now and again.

Yeah, there's no way a player of his age should be playing full back the way we utilise a full back. He runs constantly & is having to defend & try to physically strong, as well mentally alert to attack & defence throughout the game.

It's little wonder he looks gassed, I'm just amazed he gets through 90 minutes every week.

I'm hoping next season we see him used as an auxiliary player in CM & occasionally at lb or lw, so he gets more rest & we get the benefit of his experience when we're short on a player.

If all the Echo reports are to be believed, our stand-out choice for left back is Ryan Sessegnon.

Probably depends on whether Fulham get through the play-offs and it will cost us a big fee, but he looks a great talent and presumably the idea is that he and Milner will alternate next season instead of Milner playing every game because Moreno can't be risked.

I assume the plan with Sessegnon as you say is to bed him in slowly as with him and TAA that's our full backs sorted for years to come and both play regularly for England's under 19's

No way Sessegnon signs to play LB (that, apparently according to someone I know at Fulham who spoke to agent/family members) - sees his future further up the pitch, as do the majority of the Craven Cottage faithful

I think that's the view of the vast majority.

Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere on this site, but it seems that Arsenal have an agreement to sign Sead Kolasinac on a free next season. One of the most rated Leftbacks from the Bundesliga, I wonder why we've lost out on this. Surely Klopp at the helm and Matip being old teammates should have put us in the front seat for this signing.

I'd hope there will be another signing for that position. All the way through the age groups there seems a real lack of obvious potential at left back. No one's set to rise up the ranks. I really hope we get Sessegnon, he's going to be tremendous, although I suspect he'l end up as an attacking midfielder.

Fulham lost in the playoffs to Reading. Hopefully that increases our chances of getting Sessegnon.

I saw him play wide left a couple of weeks ago and he was excellent and scored a very good goal. Hard to believe he's only 16, he looks to be an exceptional talent.

He'd not be a standard left back in our formation. Against 15 teams in the league he'd be in their half most of the game.

Echo reporting Moreno is out of the door and Anderson won't materialise.

I guess he won't "materialize" because I have no idea in hell who he is!
