Curtis lad

The whole bust up story is probably BS anyway. I mean Slot was leading the birthday wishes for Jones before yesterdays training with the whole squad cheering so it can't have been a bad one if true.

Should still sack the bald eight ball as soon as possible though.

I dunno. Maybe they thought he'd be gone by now and have started lashing out because he isn't. And in your own professional life I bet you've been in circumstances where you thought I can't work with this fucker one more day even if he's retiring soon, or similar. What I'm saying is there's all kinds of variables and temperaments in the room and he probably does think everything is shit and probably does think he'd absolutely fuck the Italian league, because he would.

Probably sees McTominay on the verge of sainthood and says "I could do with a bit of that."

Top of the league for all kinds of stats, completed progressive passes being one of them, and loads of people still think he's shit.

It's just a good job he wants to leave because of Slot, as that won't be a problem in the next window
He is my left (and only good) ball.

Journalist David Lynch has admitted he would be surprised to see Curtis Jones sign a new contract at Liverpool :

🗣 “I’ll almost be surprised now if he signs a new contract."

🗣 "This interest has got out there, and it is being clearly welcomed by the player."

🗣 "I just think it’s pretty terrible for Liverpool. He’s your only Scouser in the team now."

🗣 "You’ve developed him since he was seven or eight. Is there really not a world where you can give him a contract he’s happy with?”

Gotta hope he's just leveraging the interest for a new contract. He's said many times he wants to spend his career with us. But I also understand that he wants to be paid and wants to play regularly.

Hopefully a solution can be found that satisfies all parties. He's a good solid player for our club, even I struggle to think he'll rise to the level of an ever-present starter.

Isn't it the same with every player? Regardless of where he's from? The club puts a salary value on that player - if he wants significantly over that amount then there is not going to be a value both parties can agree on. For Jones more than likely he'll not get close to what we are offering anywhere else (even if it is substantially below what he/his agent are negotiating for). He'll never get close to it in Italy for example.

For Jones the decision is simple, he knows he's a bit part player (but still a valuable part of the squad ). He is now in his prime (25) and entering his best years. Does he stay to compete, knowing that we are prepared to pay for the best out there (that will come here)? Or does he fancy a change of scenery a=with less competition for a starting berth?

He won't go to City/Arsenal, in which case for the PL he's already in the best place. For CL ditto, no club with better chances will be in for him. He could however go abroad and win medals in a minor league - but that's risky adn TBH worth less unless you still have a realistic shot at the CL or just want the lifestyle (warm, fun, interesting and different to that which you've expereinced so far in your life), but then it's not about the money.

2024/5 2438 mins (17th ranked at LFC by mins)
PL 33 games (1,711 mins)
CL 8 games (352')
EFL 5 games (375')

2025/6 mins (so far ranked 12th by mins)
PL 21 games (1,091 mins)
CL 6 games (382')
EFL+others 3 games (218')

So if he wants medals and to play at a top club - he's already in the best place. He's also on course to play more minutes than last season. Added to which it's his home town club and he's valued, one of our core squad members, even if not a starter.

IMO he'd be a fool to leave now.

This will be the most important contract for his career from a financial standpoint. Age 24-29 is basically a player's peak. I guess he wants to paid fair value.

Macca, Gravenberch, Chiesa are all on 150k a week. Szobo is on 120k a week (and in talks for a new deal). Gakpo just got a new deal for 200-250k a week.

Seeing all that, it's not unreasonable for Jones to ask for something in the 150k ballpark. He's become a core member of the squad, and is entitled to some sort of pay parity. I'd also imagine the idea of moving to a top Italian side is intriguing to him, especially if we aren't giving him the sort of wages he wants.

Did we really make Gakpo a top earner? Weird.

Anyways the primary reason for keeping Jones is that he’s local. Otherwise a good player but replaceable.

The Gakpo deal is beyond strange.

Jones won't get anywhere near the salary in Italy as in the PL. You don't go there for a raise. Chiesa was on a virtual free (£12.5m) hence why his salary is higher than otherwise it would be (it probably includes a signing on bonus).

Liverpool took an 8-9 year old boy and turned him into a fine, respected, PL player.

Capolology says Curtis is on £50k a week before bonuses. So maybe somewhere around £100-120k is fair dos.
