I thought Mac was decent yesterday. I don’t find it strange because it’s not like Jones pulls up trees when he does start. He’s consistently inconsistent. Yesterday was one of his better games and deserves his mentions in MOTM.

Macca has been better the last half dozen or so games.

I like both of them, but Macca has a much higher ceiling, and I'm not sure Jones will ever kick on to a higher level. He is fourth best of our midfielders, I think Slot's point is about right.

I agree Macca has improved in recent games, but he's still nowhere near his best. Now he's just functional rather than a liability.

Jones is an odd one, as he is very inconsistent and he holds on to the ball too long. The thing he has going for him though is that he does show for the ball a lot more than macca.

At the moment it's playing an inconsistent jones or a middling macca. I don't think there necessarily a right answer, but I also feel that every season macca starts to slow down as the season goes on through fatigue. He should be being rested and rotated a lot more than he has been

Jones has never reached the level of performances Macca can produce. Even his POTM game yesterday was at quite a low bar.

Once Macca can get anywhere even remotely close to the form of last season Jones is right back to the bench and rightfully so.

If the champions league finals is next week I will start Macca 100%.

I can't argue that Macca at his peak is levels above Jones; but we've not seen that Macca this season. We've not even seen half of that level from him.

In an isolated game, regardless of form you start Macca. If you're considering form it's not as straight forward

The wider point is we have four great midfielders plus Wirtz. There should be enough games to spread the load around and Curtis is absolutely up there. However, slot can’t work out how to build a reliably function formation and he refuses to rotate even his first teamers sensibly

Jones can also play as a left midfielder and has done it for Liverpool and England U21s. When you consider that against the fact that there are people in the crowd who are more deserving of starting than Gak, Slot is taking shit.
