I don't think that list is to patchy at all tbh, loads of the players on it that I would have loved at Anfield.

I'd also like to know how many other talents that he "discovered" that went to bigger European and English clubs, that wouldn't go to Tottenham. Now that he represents Liverpool, those players will be interested aswell. We still hold an enourmous appeal out there.
We'll have to agree to differ then. There are a number whom I'd have been OK with, but not a single one - apart perhaps from Jonathan Woodgate IF he'd been fit - that I'd have "loved" to sign.

I'm sure we do still have some appeal, but we'll have to get winning titles again before it becomes enormous.

Assou-Ekotto and Bale? They piss all over our current left flank. Or indeed any left flank that Liverpool have had in the last decade.

Saber-matics sounds so Christian science! Are we being backed by Val Kilmer or what.
The phrasing in this part sounds dodgy for a moment "Epstein - with Henry's backing - has focused on developing talent that produce in less appreciated but more statistically important categories and acquiring undervalued players on the market."

Knew the age + value thing has been mentioned before but undervalued doesn't sound too good to me. Maybe too paranoid.

Yup weird!
Afellay-s on the way? Young + bosman deals. Does that rule out the likes of Hazard?

That's more a comment on the dross we've been carrying than it is on those two. They're players I'd have been happy with, but not (for my money anyway) in the "loved to sign" category. Bale is flavour of the month now, but that's a very recent development (and one which he's yet to prove he can sustain).

Ha if henry wants an accountant maybe we'll see the return of rafa.

They'd get on like a house on fire

Who the fuck cares what Alan Sugar says??!!

Yesterdays line up included 50 % of signings Comolli recommended. Sounds like shite..

I'm a little in two minds about this appointment. Not so much about the creation of such a position, but rather the person that will now be occupying it.

I guess like with everything else, we just have to hope for the best.

Yep I'm not too sure about this myself. I'll reserve any judgement until he actually does something, be it positive or negative.

I'm sure John Henry has a management structure in mind. Devolving responsibility to an experienced specialist seems a common sense move. If Comolli finds us half the players he's credited with above then I think it has a fair chance of paying off.

You obviously don't appreciate the gifts he has given us

I'm all for it.

I don't agree in one person deciding everything at the club. We've all seen how it can go awry when a manager loses his vision and alienates those around him who kept him in check with reality, so I am for the creation of the position.

Never heard of the guy, but I wish him all the best. I think this appointment being seen as spelling the end for Hodgson is just wishful thinking, however.

Alan 'Amstrad e-m@ailer' Sugar telling us that an individual was below par in one job is a bit rich from someone who tried to sign Carlos Kickaball.

This is a super appointment. At least Roy won't be signing any more Poulsens and Konchesky type players!

Not necessarily Binny. I know there's a tendency to think looking for undervalued players as being cheap but nobody could really accuse NESV of that with the Red Sox, they have the second highest payroll in MLB.

If you've got the information to hand that Striker X has been performing , or is likely to perform, like your average £30m striker, 120k a week striker and he's available for 20m and 120k a week, then he is undervalued.

I'm going to wait and see whether this appointment is a success or a failure before deciding whether I'm in favor of it or not.

Well, I don't exactly know what Tomkins had in mind when he ended his article in that rather cryptic way, but I do think Roy's departure is a possibility, though I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

I'm in favour of the structure. Not too sure on Comolli.

Director of Football Strategy? Ace title.

Pass and move on the cards? A return to a definate identifiable footballing style of old would be fantastic!

Here's the thing:

It's not possible to make our scouting any worse, so any move is a good one.
