Do you think we should proceed with Ekitike being our main man, or should we still try to get Isak?
Another option would be to find a striker to back him up.

Ekitike + Isak + Semenyo

Let's win it all.

We can't NOT go for Isak now. Otherwise other players we tap on the shoulder in future will not have faith that we're a club that follows through on transfers if we tell them to itch for a move. If we don't get Isak, we have to do like we did for VVD and come back in in January. Meantime, sign Semenyo.

i’ve flipped to not wanting isak at all, ekitike has made such a strong start i’m not sure we should interfere with that. however we are ridiculously light up top, we need someone who can play left wing and 9 in rotation or one of each.

i was never ‘for’ selling diaz but it made total sense, he’d be very much involved if he were still around, ideally we’d find another just like him but younger.

Love the idea of signing Semenyo, he'd be our Salah replacement. Problem is, he's also AFCON bound

I always find it a bit of a red flag when English players like Semenyo don't declare for England. Makes it seem like maybe they don't mix that well and could have a bit of an attitude problem.

Isak is 25 and one of the top strikers in the world, proven over 3 seasons in the PL. Ekitike is 22 and has started well but it seems everyone is judging (and come to a conclusion) Kerkez, Wirtz and Ekitike after just 3 games.

Since both Isak and Ekitike have proven they can play the Henry role (from LW) it is a brilliant partnership. Gakpo is the one who actually has the most to lose with Isak's arrival (if it happens).

Ekitike ------ Isak ------- Salah

-------------- Wirtz

Salivating.

Or have had pressure from their families, or feel closer to their roots or just think they would have a better chance of playing international football than holding out for England?

Could be. I think with Semenyo at least it's less weird than with the other two I can think of, Olise and Carvalho, because at least with him we're talking about real roots. But all 3 of them have been rumoured to have attitude problems.

Logically, in an ideal world I’d prefer the club to pivot, but we’ve backed ourselves into a corner and time is running out. We need attacking options and he’s the best available. I’ll be genuinely excited, not least because it moves us away from being so reliant on Salah, but I still have questions about how it all fits together, what the plan actually looks like, how long it will take for Slot’s vision to come through, and what it means for Ekitike’s development. I’ve warmed to him very quickly and I’m invested in seeing him become a big success.

The issue is that even if we say no to Isak now, what’s the alternative? There isn’t enough time to spread resources across multiple positions. We’d likely end up waiting until January or next summer. Some years that might be the smart move, but with City looking vulnerable and Arsenal being Arsenal, this feels like the moment to seize the opportunity and chase as much silverware as possible. We’re far more likely to do that with Isak in the squad.

The strange thing is I’d more desperate for us to spend £35m on Guehi than I do on landing Isak. But it is what it is.

Really? Anything specific? Because Olise is rumoured to be our salah replacement !

Semenyo never played for the England youth teams. Spent most of his career in the Championship. So I kinda understand that he picked Ghana in 2022.

I've said another who's not Isak, but really I'm not happy with that

Semenyo, another 9, guehi, all together would cost an Isak. Problem is I don't know who the other 9 is and that's why I'm very iffy over saying no to Isak.

I don't think Isak is better than Ekitike

Less skilled, not as strong, worse attitude.
And Ekitike's finishing will get better and better.

There I've said it. Still want us to get Isak, cause we can't abandon a guy who's been on hunger strike for us for a month.

I can't really decide what I think about Isak's attitude. One the one hand Newcastle have clearly been trying to sign his replacement to make a deal happen, so why does he need to be on strike? On the other their efforts have been so fucking pathetic I think I'd be striking just on general principle if I was him.

Not sure about that. Has Ekitike ever scored a zinger like the one Isak scored against us? Also I'd prefer Isak to play more as his name is easier to type and say.

Oh come on! Have you not been watching any other PL matches over the past 2 years? Less skilled ? Do we need an Isak highlight reel?

He's given them 3 years without a peep and they reneged on a promise - so worse attitude? Not as strong?! This sounds like you're just making things up to extol Ekitike after 3 matches.

Isak has scored 54 goals and 10 assists in 86 PL matches alone, 1.34 games per G/A (for comparison for rate of G/A alone : Mo - 404 games 246 goals 114 assists = 1.12 games per G/A in the PL). Ekitike 41 goals and 22 assists for Stade Reim, PSG and Frankfurt in substantially weaker leagues.

Whilst there is immense promise with a 22 year old Ekitike let's not get ahead of ourselves based on 3 goals in 3 matches.

We'd definitely be better with a better player in Isak. Ekitike has done well with his goals, but his overall play can and hopefully will improve with experience. Isak on the other hand is ready made and already a level above. We would certainly benefit with Isak being the main man. And maybe with Ekitike on the left, where he'll have more space and the advantage of ghosting into the box unmarked.

With Isak and Ekitike we’d have the best prem striker and the future best prem striker…simples.
It's like Arsenal 99/00, when they could have had Henry and Anelka together. Why wouldn't we want that potential 2 up top? Like if you the put the 2 up top, and benched(/Afconned) Salah, and went into a 4-4-2 diamond, with Wirtz in behind, Gravy, Macca, Szobo, width from Frimmy and Kerkez (who gets to actually push up now). Which team is stopping us?

Salah's not getting dropped this season though is he.

That’s exactly what I’d do…
