CHELSEA are convinced they can complete the Double – and sign Fernando Torres.

Victory over Portsmouth at Wembley today would see the Blues secure their first League and FA Cup triumph and owner Roman Abramovich will immediately start work towards an assault on the Champions League next season.

Torres has emerged as the top target and the Chelsea hierarchy have been given so much encouragement about a potential British-record transfer that confidence of him moving to Stamford Bridge is sky high. Liverpool’s terrible season, together with uncertainty over the future of Anfield boss Rafa Benitez, has made Torres a realistic option, especially with Manchester City’s failure to qualify for the Champions League denting their hopes of attracting the player.

Discreet inquiries have led Chelsea to believe Torres can be tempted out of Liverpool to London and even his Spanish international team-mates are aware that initial discussions have taken place.

A deal to sign Torres would cost in the region of £70million, a figure that would push the limits of even Abramovich’s considerable purse strings, but he has not been put off by talk of the fee involved.

Benitez has made it clear he wants to keep Torres if he remains in charge at the club and the player himself would have to ask for the move to force Liverpool’s hand and spark formal negotiations.

Torres has so far remained eerily quiet on his future, as he and his advisors consider whether Liverpool can meet his personal ambitions and aims without Champions League football next term.

Abramovich certainly feels Chelsea would be able to give Torres the ideal platform from which to showcase his considerable talent, as the Blues aim to go into next season with their best chance of finally winning the Champions League

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

That'd just about scour out the last scintilla of joy left in me as far as football goes.

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

I couldn't see him leaving this year anyway, and not for another premiership team

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

A player of his calibre deserves to be playing at a better football club.

I said recently that I think he could be tempted to play for another English club, and I stand by it.

I wouldn't hate him for leaving, although it would be a horrible day.

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

40 million??

Surely not.

how much money would he create in shirt sales alone??

Id expect at a minimum 70 million considering the duration of his contract. If he doesnt like it... TOUGH SHIT.

For once we should perhaps grow some balls.

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

If he does leave for Chelsea, I'm gonna hate Rafa to his guts and seven generations after him for failing to build a team capable of challenging.

I don't think two Aquilani's is a particularly helpful representation but yeah, £40m would be a joke.

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

He's not going anywhere, least of all Chelsea. The London media is on the stir.

You wouldn't hate Torres for going to Chelsea?

What the fuck does that mean? That's stretching the limits of being philosophical about football support.

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

I'd detest him if he went to that soulless club. I'd detest Benitez and I'd very much detest the owners. Fuck philosophy - I'd be very bitter and quite hateful

I'd detest him if he left for any club, not just Chelsea. He's been injured half the season. To fuck off after one bad season would place him in 'cunt of the highest order' bracket.

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

being a journo must be the easiest job in the world.

£60m + Anelka, and I'd be quite tempted.
[/quote]

I wouldn't be tempted for anyone or any price BM. We're already in shit street as far as our image goes. We've just missed out on the CL and scraped into the Europa League, the World and it's wife are saying we're 'finished', so selling our best players would just be a touch of white flag waving.

FUCK THAT.

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

Oh and as said, if he 'wants' to go, then fuck him, I'll never look at him as a Liverpool great, he'll just be another Owen to me. One injury hit season which had an effect on our finishing spot and he wants to fuck off?! If that is the case then yeah, fuck him.

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

Did CA not admit interest in him? Though I guess most managers would be interested in him.
