Makes sense. If we did it after we'd be screwed. I don't get the hype with markovic though. He has pace but he just reminds me of patrick berger.
Just as a quick point of reference can someone educate me a little on who the journalists are that could be considered at least worth listening to. Tony Barrett, Oli Holt, Ballague etc. I realise they are mostly chancers but would appreciate an opinion either way. I suspect @gkmacca might be able to help me out here. Cheers in advance. 🙂

Lallana will become Liverpool’s third summer signing following the £4million deal for fellow Saints star Rickie Lambert and the £10million purchase of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can.
Brendan Rodgers is eyeing more attacking reinforcements with the manager now set to turn his attentions to highly-rated Serbian youngster Markovic.
The 20-year-old was heavily scouted by Liverpool last season and had been lined up initially as a possible alternative to Lallana if an agreement couldn’t be reached with Southampton.
However, despite landing Lallana, the Reds are set to press on and open talks with Benfica.
Liverpool haven’t been put off by the £25million price tag and are confident of making another statement of intent ahead of the new campaign.
Markovic, who is understood to be keen on making the switch to Anfield, joined Benfica from Partizan Belgrade last summer and helped them clinch the Portuguese title.
The pursuit of Markovic means that the Reds are unlikely to follow up their interest in Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri, who caught the eye with a hat-trick for Switzerland against Honduras at the World Cup earlier this week.
Liverpool also look set to beat off competition from Tottenham for Lille’s teenage Belgium international striker Divock Origi.
However, if the Reds do secure the 19-year-old’s services they will loan him back to Lille for the 2014/15 season.
Southampton’s Dejan Lovren and Sevilla’s Albert Moreno remain the club’s top defensive targets but neither of those deals are close to completion.
Talks over Moreno have stalled with the La Liga outfit refusing to budge on their £20million valuation.

Isnt that Bascombe? Barrett still has decent contacts I think. Macca probably knows this best as you say.

You're referring to Bascombe, but the manager he was close to was Houllier, not Benitez.

I find him hit and miss. He throws out a load of names and some of them will be right. A lot of them won't.
Well maybe, I'm not sure. Personally I've always found his info the soundest of a pretty sound bunch: Pearce, King, Andy Hunter at the Guardian.
Yeah, he was very good last season. So far in this window its been a bit more hit and miss as you say.
Ben Smith, Barrett and Pearce seem to be the ones to listen to.
The clips are apparently only the ones from Benfica home games and Europa League due to copyright issues. So there's a fair few matches/bits of skill missing I would think.
Tony Barrett is the one at the mo, definitely. Dominic King is the other one who still has very good contacts. The rest are just mopping up as far as LFC is concerned.
