Lazar Markovic

Markovic shouldn't distract us from signing Sanchez. From what people are saying he has a hell of a lot of potential but not the finished article just yet. We need to build a solid attacking team for the champions league and havin both he and Sanchez will need to be in there in Suarez abscence.

Sanchez wont be happening so hopefully we've got some other quality players lined up.

Reading a bit about Markovic now and he's very highely rated. Can play anywhere in attack and is pacey as fuck.
Great signing if it comes off.

Also look great against Porto, must've been fouled at least a half dozen times. Plus, he tried to mount Quaresma near the end.

Here he is playing for Partizan Belgrade a few years back, against Inter. Hits the post, and denied by a great save by Handanovic right at the end.

Liverpool are hoping to wrap up a £25million deal for Benfica winger Lazar Markovic this week.

The 20-year-old is on the verge of becoming Brendan Rodgers' fourth summer signing and will join Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Emre Can at Anfield.

The move will see the Reds transfer spree go beyond the £60million mark.

However, much of that will be recouped by the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, who is expected to be complete a £75million switch later this week.

The Reds are yet to make a formal approach for Markovic but have firmed up their interest in the Serbian and hope a deal can be concluded swiftly.

Despite interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea, Markovic is said to prefer a move to Anfield where he will be given the opportunity of first team football.

Despite being only 20, he starred for Benfica last season and thrived in an attractive and attacking brand of football.

A tricky and skillful wideman, the Serbian speedster has the ability to unlock defences and will add an extra dimension to Brendan Rodgers attack.

I can't recall ever watching him play but I have to say I've been largely underwhelmed by his videos.

He's fast and likes to run with the ball. Beyond that - what? What are his strengths? It's hard to work out without knowing him better as a player.

Those two highlighted performances don't really stand out as being all too special.

It makes me reflect on Sterling's season and think what he'd be worth.

Aye , his youtube videos haven't done much for me.

He looks quick and tidy but for £20m plus I'm not sure that's what we need.

I'd rather we spent big on a forward, which I'm guessing won't happen if we get this lad

Have to agree I'm not buzzing by those videos.

He does seem fast no doubt but his touch lets him down and decision making seems a little questionable....

He's brilliant, and he'll be a fantastic signing. These are exactly the sort of deals the club should be making, whenever they can.

Granted there's a small price to pay in terms of waiting a year or two to mature, and that's important to factor in, but after that you get maybe 10 years of a top class player.

We won't have any trouble getting great balls into the box. The potential problem we'll have is getting bodies in the box to exploit them. That obviously doesn't mean we should go out and get an old-fashioned centre forward but, apart from the likes of Hendo being made to time their runs into attacking areas we do also need to get a striker.

One for Rosco.

Yeah @Jay_78_, wouldn't want you to bask in all that glory of getting Markovic right. pic.twitter.com/GUgUBgGtKj

I know nothing about Markovic, but for some reason this transfer excites me, especially after reading @peterhague post. More posts like that please.

I hope Peter's right, because he really does underwhelm me, I think he has the potential to be a good player, but £25m is pretty steep for what is essentially, as Macca said, another player who can pick out passes for a striker that won't be there.

Keep it coming.

Yep, definitely it's a worry. I lot depends on whether we get Sanchez, or who we get if we don't, because I think with Sanchez/Sturridge/Lambert and Borini we'd be alright in that department. If we don't get Sanchez, and it's looking like we won't, we'll have to sign a very good goal scoring forward, otherwise we could risk looking a bit like Arsenal.
