Liverpool related transfer speculation

It's not that they'd have to sell Isak to fund Elitike but that they wouldn't be buying him in the first place if Isak was staying.

It's odd - £80m on a backup striker? Hard to believe if you ask me.

He's not a backup though. He's an understudy and the heir when Isak leaves in 18 months time

I doubt he will move from a CL playing Frankfurt in a 85 mill move to sit on the bench or be an understudy.
There are so many clubs after him that he will have been promised first team commitments to move.

The problem I have with sesko (and I quite like him), is there's been zero concrete links to him. It's all been Isak and Ekitike. Do we know if the spreadsheet squad still love him?

For me, and a "win now" mindset but we sell Diaz and Nunez... Probably sesko and Gordon. That's LW looked down for a while, a boyhood red, and PL experience. Sesko may not be Isak but he might work nicely with our setup.

Isak I feel there's too much up front cost and injury risk. I really like Isak, his style of play would work nicely with us, but the money is just insane

I half worry we're gonna go in to the season with mateta up top and Diaz as backup LW.

As others have said it might be Newcastle planning on selling Isak next summer. The question then is what do we do now.

I wouldnt be concerned about us not being linked to certain players. Thats how we operate under Edwards and Hughes. Its been said several times that we have scouted Sesko extensively.

Scouting and wanting to buy are different things though.

If Isak is the plan for next summer (stupid for me), then we aren't going to be spending huge on a striker this summer. So a stop gap like mateta.

That would be hugely underwhelming after the excitement of wirtz

I would be very surprised if we buy Isak and why is everyone assuming Newcastle don't want to keep Isak and buy Ekitike?

People are assuming they are close to PSR breaching. Forgetting that they are in the CL again.

Ekitike will be the Wilson replacement.

Putting aside Newcastle's wants and needs for a minute, I'm surprised Ekitike would entertain a move there if Isak isn't going. You could push the "learn from Isak" angle but really he needs to be playing at this stage of his developement. It's not like Isak is 30 and he's the young buck coming to replace him.

They will need to make a decent sale after signing Ekitike. Their local journos aluded to the same.

Ekitike wouldn’t move to Newcastle to be a back up.

It’s entirely plausible, but equally, they’ve let Callum Wilson go and with CL and Isak missing the odd game with injury, it’s equally plausible that they want, or more likely need, a 2nd forward.

They learnt a lesson last time they were in the CL- so I’d imagine they’ll want to consolidate and make sure they’re in again next year.
I can't imagine him moving there to play second fiddle to Isak.

It wouldn’t be back up though - that’s the point I was trying to make - minimum 8 CL games, the domestic cups and league - thats a minimum of 48 games (likely more) and Isak can’t play all of them - Ekitike could easily get a fair few games and provide competition to Isak.

Additionally, if you believe the latest rumours it’s €80m, which is a little less.

Given the signed Elanga, it might be one of the wide left players they cash in on, with Ekitike capable of filling in there too.

Yeah, Ekitike makes no sense to me as an Issk replacement because that’s just Newcastle weakening their squad when they’ll want to consolidate CL qualification - they’ll have seen how far Villa go into it last year and they’ll want to challenge again for a domestic cups.

If they were selling Isak to fund Ekitike AND Sesko, I could see it - but for me they’re clearly looking for a striker that fits their system to share the load with Isak.

You're assuming they will play 433 with 1 number 9.

They could quite conceivably play 442 with two high wingers feeding both Isak and Ekitike.

And I didn't say they wouldn't make a sale. But they'd try and make a pure profit first imo.

Notwithstanding the Nunez sale not yet looking close enough to move quickly, Newcastle’s move for Ekitike will flush out our interest if he’s really a top target for us.

I don’t think Isak is going anywhere this summer.

Why wouldn’t he, if he’s guaranteed game time, paid a lot more than he currently is and a strong possibility that he’ll replace Isak down the track.

It’s not as if he’d be starting every game if we signed him, so by that logic, why would he sign for us?
