Liverpool related transfer speculation

nah that’s just a shade more than cunha and we were supposedly basing his fee on what was offered for bruno fernandez (although that’ll be the price to saudi clubs)

£75m gets it done for me
Yeah. He's still got 2 years left and he's one of the best 20 wingers in the world (IMO).

I'd want more up front £65m, plus an easy add on, say £5m for winning the BL and then £5m for making the CL final or 100 appearances.

Agree that we can and should hang on for more... Unless we've made the decision to go all-in on Isak, think we can get him, know how we're going to use him (among all the other acquisitions), and need the Diaz money / no longer have a need for Diaz.

In that case, I'd be inclined to accept slightly (not a lot) less in exchange for a quick move so we're clear to push on Isak.

It’s weird a feeling being one of the clubs to spend huge sums of money and unlike City and Chelsea who cook the books if the big players coming in don’t lead to trophies we’ll be in a tough spot in 2 years. We need the league/CL as a minimum next season.

Good pressure to make sure our standards don’t drop.

We don’t need to win both to justify our spending. I don’t think someone like FSG, who are tight operators are suddenly going to go all out on a risky spend one season based on speculation of accumulation. They would have a plan with risks considered.
Hasn't Arteta spent £1bn or close to, with very little income earned from sales? Our owners are stooges/frugal, they would not spend what they're spending unless they knew they could afford it. We know as long there aren't forced departures we will see very little churn

i don't think it's as much about trophies as you think.

The difference in winning the PL and 4th is just a few million. Ditto the CL where winning it and going out in the last 16 makes a difference of circa £10m in prize money. There was only £40m difference between us going out in the Last 16 and PSG winning it!

In the CL "a larger portion allocated to teams based on their market value and coefficient ranking" so just by qualifying and performing well in the league section and making decent progress in the KOs we are going to make a significant amount of money.

Of course commercial activities will dwarf what we make from any one competition. So it's not about the trophies (though naturally that's what we are aiming for) but about finishing in the Top 4 and qualifying for the KO stages of the CL. I can't see a financial drop off sufficient to put us into the UEFA mire?

Maybe @Beamrider can confirm if I'm miles off or not?

He is from Brazil, he is average like most of their players these days, except Alisson.
Weren't you the one demanding the club sign Ederson from Atlanta? Ederson would guarantee us the league. Douglas Luiz knows the prem, I would only take him on loan and if he performs well then buy him. He could cover for Grav and the hope is we maintain the same performance

I wonder if qualifying for the next Club World Cup is part of the consideration. Seeing Chelsea get 100m for their participation has to register at some level.

Double edged sword* ? No doubt the owners of all clubs are looking at that though and thinking that it pays as much as winning the season long PL or CL trophies. Insane but it shows the lengths FIFA will go to to make it relevant.

*fitness issues for the following season

Yes, most definitely a potential double edged sword. But if FIFA is successful in pushing this as a version of the super League, we won't be able to ignore it completely.
