Was never a lover, or a hater, but If he keeps playing like this, would you keep him on as squaddy?

I found myself really impressed today.

He deserves more respect than "would you keep him as a squaddie".

He was very good today and has been good for the majority of the season.

I may be in the minority here, but i thought he was at best average today. By no means a firsteamer, but may be a decent squaddie

This. There aren't many worse players in the top half of this division.

i tend to agree, I thought he was good but not as amazing as some have said. He has improved a lot and he deserves all the credit for it. However, he is starting from such a poor base that the improvement we are seeing was probably inevitable - unfortunately for him I don't see him improving to the extent that he will take us to the next level.

Don't exaggerate. He's played well of late and played well today against probably the toughest midfield in the country. Aside from two sluggish moments in the first half, he had a very good game, given we haven't got an actual DM and he's the one out three given the role. He battled well, won some good tackles and was constantly looking to bring the ball out from the back.

Lucas is weak and the premiership is not best suited to his style of play.If glock=ratings then Lucas=Avarage when he is at his best.

Now that certain completely blinkered anti-Lucas posters are not around I hope he gets the appreciation he deserves

His desire in the 50/50 tackle is admirable. His passing has improved and his confidence on the ball showing all the time is superb

He deserves to be 1st team and his form will also give kenny a headache when trying to fit in the new players. You cannot say dirk or Lucas deserve to make way for anyone

What I liked was his body language after going 1-up, watch it when chavski get set to restart.

currently I agree with you, there is no one else is the sqaud who should get ahead of Lucas, however, he is competing with Poulsen and Spearing, which with all due respect doesn't say much. We need to get better players in and if Lucas still performs well than great, however, once we go and splash big cash on a quality DM I can't see Lucas being a first XI - squad player definitely.

Fair enough, but in all honesty if we lost, i think many would be singing a different tune about Lucas.
I'm not one of these lads who jump on the bandwagon and write him off instantly at the start of every game,
Nor am i one of the lads who let his improvement (let's be honest, he was wank) affect my judgement.. he's a squaddie at best as said.
Just my opinion though

We can and will do better, let's not get carried away, but credit where it's due. I like the lad, he never let's his head drop and today was up against it with the likes of Essien and Mikel, he's doing well and could well be a good squaddie.

uh-oh...

I fear that Avvy's genius Lucas banner is gonna show up any second now.

The 2 nil game against the chavs at anfield this season was one of his best performances and it certainly wasnt average! When he plays well he can stick it out against the best of midfields as he has shown. I think he could grow as a player under kenny because his passing game is very good. He bulked up this year aswell and may continue to. He takes a lot of undeserved stick to be honest and is an easy target. Lucas for me is a work in progress which is exactly where the club is at the moment!

I dont think he need individual threads after every game anymore.
He's a good player and getting better and in this of all weeks when we have all learned something about loyalty, im all for giving Lucas as much time as he needs to become the rawkesque figure we all know he will be.
Lucas is fine. Leave im alone, he'll make you proud one day.

The kid's got heart in the face of all the shit you KNOW he KNOWS he gets.

That, for me, counts a shed load.

I still dont think he'll have the quality we need to be a top player; but agree 100% on the loyalty bit.

Top post.

Just out of curiosity i've read threads on RAWK which have mentioned how Lucas is the dog's bollocks due to loyalty?
Maybe just the typical shite they spew but is there any reasoning behind this standpoint?
Might be a kneejerk in the wake of the Torres shite, but surely he shouldn't be singled out for loyalty when everyone else is basically doing the same as him.

This.

When the likes of Lucas, Kuyt, Cole and Skrtel are demoted to the bench/squad-role from certain first team starters, we will start competing for the big honours.

But we have quite a bit of shite that needs to be properly fucked out...like Jovanovich, Poulsen, Maxi and Konchesky

I think that this season's two matches against the chavs have highlighted just how much he's improved over the past 18 months or so...

I remember watching him play against this same team as recently as two seasons ago, and dispairing at how, despite his best efforts, he simply wasn't deserving to be on the same field as the likes of Lampard, Essien, Ballack, etc... It was like watching grown men swat away little schoolboys every time he challanged them.

This season, he has been extremely effective in both matches against a team that used to make him look leagues out of his depth - He played a major role in both our wins against them this year, and good luck to the lad.

Much improved, and as long as he's not who we look to to actually carry the match, he's got a spot in this team.

Yes, a squaddie moving forward, when other players come in, but definite improvement

Apart from Magic, Lucas is the most improved player so far this season under Kenny.

His performances keep improving. At such a rate he will be a fixture in the first team until we get better players. The measure of the man will be if he can continue his upward trajectory amongst better players and hold his own.

I liked the way Lucas just ignored Torres' handshake! ;D
