Miscellaneous - liverpool thread

In Monday's Newcastle v Liverpool game, Liverpool set the record for the largest age gap between two players assisting and scoring. Salah 33 to Rio 16.

Any guesses on who the two players that previously held the record?

Giggs and someone or other.

See, it is this sort of sh#t that gives this forum away as being run and visited by a bunch of Americans (and then by a bunch of international weirdos).

And let me say it again, there is nothing wrong with that. Even though Americans do remain very fundamentally uninformed about the sport of football. It's like they know all about it absent knowing what it's all about.

Rush-Fowler?
Barnes-Fowler?
Barnes-Owen?

If it's any club, surely it's Ronaldo and someone or Modric and someone, that kind of thing. Probably Modric.

If Liverpool, I wonder if its Gary Mac and someone, maybe Owen?

I know, but I'll let the game play out a bit longer.

I'll just say, its not Milner (and he would have been my guess).

Who passed the ball to that teenager who scored for us in the league cup a few years back, under Jurgen? Wasn't he about 15? Can't remember his name, of course...

Nope.

It's been a while since this happened, but still post premier league starting.

Here's another clue.

The 2 players involved would work together again.

I suppose then it has to be McAllister to Gerrard? (15 years gap)

1. McAllister (35, month shy of 36) to Gerrad (20) -- vs Coventry, Nov 2000; free kick assist; 2nd goal of the game, 40s into this clip:

2. McAllister (36) to Gerrad (21) -- vs Villa, Sep 2001; corner assist:

Looked up LFCHistory to see when Gary Mac had assisted Gerrard:

This is very, very interesting. Tuchel wanted to have a smaller squad so as to have more competition for places. He sent a message to Grealish and TAA that they both need to do more and exhibit stronger desire to be considered for an England call up. I don't think this has been a typical English approach to international football. Having a German in charge of England perhaps brings novelties. Lets see how things will pan out with this. English media might seek for ways to cry about it and then murder Tuchel at first opportunity.

Tuchel seeking to change the culture within the national, English squad. To infuse greater competition. It is very, very tricky work. Tuchel is a club manager. He's never coached a national side prior to this. Not sure this will work but perhaps it very well might. Not calling up TAA and Grealish. Seeking to AVOID having particular social interactions. TAA would arrive as a major, RM star even though he may not be deserving of such prominence within the English squad. He'd buddy up with that RM Number 5 (what's his name?) (Bellingham, but he's injured so never mind that) (but still, has anyone followed how TAA has been doing at RM?). Tuchel sending a message about who is who when it comes to the English national team. I think it is a good idea.

Here is the lead story from Tuchel's press conference at BBC. BBC is the main British broadcaster. You have to know here that this is not news. This is from June. But that is part of how English media works. It is very ethnically driven. And Tuchel is German. That rubs many the wrong way in England. England is such. And European countries are such. Ethnic is another word for primitive.

Link at: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football .

ps Unless you're familiar with the story, Tuchel said he used the word incorrectly because English is his second language.
pps Liverpool FC is often target of similar sort of derision by the English media.

Arne Slot has confirmed Andy Robertson has been appointed as Liverpool's vice-captain.

The No.26 takes up the role of deputy to Reds skipper Virgil van Dijk in his ninth season with the club.

Robertson, who wears the captain's armband for Scotland at international level, replaces Trent Alexander-Arnold in the position after his departure to Real Madrid in June.

Asked for an update on the vice-captaincy on Friday, Slot told reporters: "It's Robbo.

"He has played here so many years, won the league twice. It was Virgil, Trent, Robbo and Mo [Salah] last season. Trent left, so there are a lot of logical reasons for [the decision].

"He is a very good player, plays many games, knows what it takes, knows the culture, but also knows the culture of the club and the dressing room.

"Apart from all the quality he shows on the pitch, he plays also a big role in the culture we have here at this club. Which is, [as] I said many times last season, the biggest gift I could get from Jürgen [Klopp].

"That's also something we definitely have to keep for my successor to have, this same culture, if I am ever leaving this club."

In becoming a two-time Premier League champion with Liverpool, Robertson has made 344 competitive appearances since arriving at the club from Hull City in 2017.

Along the way he has also claimed winner's medals in the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, Carabao Cup (twice) and UEFA Super Cup.

He has captained the Reds on seven occasions to date.

I was thinking its weird to have a non first choice player as vice. Then i saw the other day Jamaal Lascelles is still Newcastle captain
