It's back ... finally.

The season actually began in China last week, and the Nationals opened their new stadium last night with a win but the season really kicks into gear tonight.

Any thoughts ?

Will the Yankees young pitchers come through ? Can the Red Sox and the Rockies be as good as last season ? What about the Tigers ?

As a Blue Jays fan I'm resigned to a 3rd place finish but the Rays will probably push us all the way. If the Jays stay healthy they could give Boston and New York problems but we haven't even made it to opening day without injury. Rolen went down with a broken finger and is expected to be out for up to 6 weeks. B.J. Ryan isn't quite ready yet either and Burnett is never far from the DL.

I think the only surprise with Texas will be Blalock getting back to the level he was at a few years ago Wiz.

Other than that I don't really know about your lot !

And not every team were the first to give a player a $250 million dollar contract, either. In fact, when that little b!tch joined your shower, didn't you have the 2nd highest payroll in the Majors, second only to you-know-who?

And didn't you also have the untouchable trio of top prospects, Danks, Vasquez & Diamond just two or three years back, only to lose them?

Please don't claim poverty and lack of youthful talent, when in the very recent past, you've had an abundance of both cash and kids, and pissed the lot of 'em away.

yah - we kinda let down the A-Rod generation with poor pitching and we let the kids' generation with poor pitching ... get the drift?

Yes, that's true, but my goodness how you SPENT during that time frame, and much of it on pitching, my friend...

well ... i think had hennamen closed that first game against the yankees, we would have won that series ... that year, we had witt and a few others as solid 10-15 game winners with 4-5 eras ... that was our best chance to beat the skankees, who would beat us in 3 playoffs ...

they just need to get some good young arms, like the marlins, and build the team round that foundation ... why our farm system can't spit out 1 good pitcher in 15-20 years boggles the mind.

It will help that Hicks said he would use Liverpool Football Club's profits on them.

Question for the baseball fans.

How is it decided which pitcher wins or loses?

Please dont give me some smartarse answer like the team with the most runs wins etc etc.

Thanks in advance.

The pitcher has to be in the game when the team gets a lead that it doesn't relinquish.

A starting pitcher has to pitch 5 innings to be eligible for a win, a reliever has no inning requirements.

Watched loads of baseball when I was in New York on the tele.

I support the mets don't ya know.

I must admit though it's a very boring game, yet quite addictive.

BAT - ADVERT - BOWL - ADVERT - BAT - ADVERT - RUN A BIT - ADVERT - ADVERT - ADVERT - ADVERT - MORE FUCKING ADVERTS...

I can see why the yanks love it.

THe Mets are poo Dave.
I'm not supporting the yankees, Ross and the mets are from New York.

I'm following a New York team.

Oh and they are not poo. They did win the other day. Even though they lost the series overall. See I'm learning.

GO METS!!!

I even have a mets hat. God, I am such a FAN!!

You should have gone to Boston.
Livvy you know a lot about a lot.

Why are the yankees not in the mets league?

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/standings/index.jsp

Look there...

New York is the mets right? Where are the yankees on that table? Hmmmm

Wait hang on.

New York on there are the yankees right?

Where are the mets in the league? Hmmm this is odd.

It's a funny and slightly complicated system.

There are two leagues Dave. The American League and the National League. The Yankees are in the AL, and the Mets in the NL. The main difference between the leagues is the pitcher bats in the NL, but not in the AL.

For most of the season teams from the two leagues don't play each other, but they are having an interleague series right now. So the Yankees and Mets are playing this weekend.

There are three divisions in each League, West, East and Central.

At the end of the year the top team from each division goes to the playoffs along with the best loser from each league.

So four teams from each league go to the playoffs.

Thanks Ross.

Who do you support?

Texas?
No LTW supports them.

I'm a Blue Jays fan.

I think I watched them play the yankees the other day, Ross.

They lost. Maybe it was 2-1.

I like the games which are like 12-6 or whatever. The 1-0 or 2-0 games are shit.

Yeah I can understand that.

But I think if you continue to watch the game and start to understand it more you'll enjoy the low scoring games, if it's because of a pitchers brilliance anyway.

You know where it says batting average .552 or whatever and pitching average .552 or whatever.

What the fuck does that mean? Hmmmm

There's loads of stats related to the game Dave.

Batting average is how often a player gets a hit (puts the ball in play and reaches base safely). So if his average is .300 he gets a hit 30% of the time.

WIth pitchers it would be the average that hitters are hitting against them.

Yeah I thought it must be something like that. I did not know what though.

Not sure how I am going to watch games though. I don't get them on sky.

A lad at work supports LA Dodgers. He loves them.
