Mo Salah 2025/26 Season

4th in the ballon d'or

See. He's shite
He has no one but himself to blame, imo.
I know it sounds harsh, but Salah didn't really show up when we had the eyes of the world or Europe on us, like in the league cup final or the knockout games against PSG. Dembele and Yamal did, and are rightfully ahead of him in the vote.
I know it's not peak Salah we're seeing, but I still think it's impressive that he at 33 still is regarded among the 5 best in the world. Not many wingers have lasted this long in the top without switching position.

It shouldn't be about sporting success. Thats what the team award is for. Its for who's been the best player.

Dembele is the only other player for me who has consistently been good over the last year.

Vitinha, Yamal, Raphinha all good seasons. But 57 G/A and only 4th? Not for me.

That being said, much like Salah himself. I stopped paying attention to the award about the 3rd encore they gave Messi when he didn't deserve it.

He's gone missing in a few big games/finals for sure.

Fabregas was insane for Arsenal, particularly when you consider how young he started. Always thought it was weird things didn't quite work out for him at Barca.

As if Vitinha or Yamal deserved to be ahead of him. Crock of shite that award.
Saw this - look at our players in the Top 10. If a challenger for Golden Balls is in the team that wins the CL then he's going to go close if not be a shoe-in. I think that's wrong as it should be based solely on the player's performance but it is what it is.

Poor Virgil. He should have won that.

Fuck off Mo you useless cunt.

& fuck off Arne for refusing to sub out this cunt no matter how shit he plays.

Now watch as Salah scores a hattrick of pens against Galatasaray and everyone starts calling him the true best player in the world.

If Rooney had been allowed to settle in one position rather than being switched between them, no-one would be arguing about his quality now. It pains me to say it but, at his best, he was amazing.

It’s a shame he was built like Tyson and you knew he would be spent by 28.

I think we're getting into a similar position with Mo that Barca found themselves in with Messi towards the end of his time there. Messi the legend, the prolific goal scorer and creator, played 90 minutes every week, no matter how well or badly he played, no matter that the game was done and dusted at half time, the manager, whoever it was, couldn't contemplate taking him off because he was Messi, the guy who could turn a game on a six-pence, and who would have a proper monk on if he felt his minutes were being managed.
Then they'd get to the latter stages of the Champions League and his performances would tail off because he was knackered, because he'd played 90 minutes every game and never had a rest. But because he was Messi, the manager wasn't allowed to say that he told everybody so (not least because he hadn't because he was too scared to do so). Then Barca would end up not winning trophies that they could have won if he'd had a bit more in the tank when it really mattered.
Same here with Mo. On all counts. Plus AFCON.

Rooney had 150% more playing time in the league, but yeah, your point stands.

If the old adage of you can only beat what's in front of you stands up, then he beat everything in front of him. Who knows how he would have fared now. But in the context of then, he was the best all round joined up eight nine or ten depending on who they were playing.

It feels like the season we brought Darwin in - Mo’s staying out wide more and not getting involved as much, therefore not getting as many chances and he’s not finishing as crisply as he does when on form.

It does feel like he’s taken the foot off the gas a little since he signed his contract - maybe time has caught up with him, maybe he’s “pacing” himself this season so he finishes strong (for numerous reasons), maybe it’s tactical adjustment to new central attackers, maybe he’s a little more isolated, maybe it’s just purely he’s not 100% on form and it’s temporary.

I don't think we're getting the ball to him as early. His ability to take on defenders has diminished somewhat in the last few years, but with everyone so far, bar a couple of teams, playing a low block against us, we're just not able to get the ball to him in space with any consistency. Wirtz - if he adapts - should provide that sort of understanding. But at the moment Salah's very easy to play against.
