Post Match Newcastle (A) Aug 26th 2 fucking 3

Our midfield set up isn't working.
We're not creating enough, giving the ball away to cheaply and put the defence under too much pressure.
Next week it'll be Gravy (who was excellent tonight) and Macca (who is excellent) and Wirtz ahead of them (time for him to start paying his return installments). That'll be tough on Dom but he got my MotM based on his RB performance.

This game tells me that we need a Wharton in our midfield desperately. If we have money left over from Isak and Guehi then fuck spending on a LW/RW target, we need a midfielder who can give us control under pressure cooker situations.

Will have to guess at who gets the nod for the RB birth (no pun intended) next Sunday.

What do you mean yikes if true. This is what I don't get about statistics. How could you be more alarmed about anything that you already watched.

Truthfully I misread it and thought that somehow it was 61% of our xG this season, not just tonight.

And fair enough either way. We don't look right, despite the six points to start the season.

Newcastle were genuinely brilliant.

We had so many poor performances across the pitch, but we kept at it, and the goals we scored, especially the winner, were absolutely sublime.

I'm buzzing.
We had a few excellent performances (Ali, VvD, Gravy, Ekitike) three that were so-so; Jones who I thought did really well at times but then let himself down and Wirtz who runs like Dom and connects the play (but then gives it away instead of laying it off - you can't beat 3 men in the PL, he'll learn) and Kerkez until that goal was doing fine (although anyone would struggle up against Elanga's pace) and then a handful that were abysmal (Gakpo, Salah, Konate).

You can't carry 3 playing poorly and disrupting everything we tried to do - and it was 10 vs 10 because Salah was mostly nowhere to be seen so we lost the numerical advantage because we struggled to get through their 4-5 across with one player nowhere in sight.

Bradley could be ready for next week? Szobo did well, but I'd rather play him in a position he's more suited to. Hard to know who to drop from midfield, could make a good argument it should be Wirtz.
it should be but slot won’t do it. i suppose you could argue a game of football might break out against arsenal so could be a game for wirtz.

Little family away trip, driving during the match.
Saw score 90min 2-2 just dejected.
Loooled hard at 3-2 especially as I saw a guy in a Newcastle top a min before at the hotel.

I think i said after the Bournemouth game
We just cant keep doing this.

Sign a defender, shore up the midfield.
Keep some flipping clean sheets ffs

And fair enough either way. We don't look right, despite the six points to start the season.

We've got about 4 new starting players and adjusting to a different system, the vice captain fucked off to Madrid after running his contract down, our 2nd most effective attacker wasn't replaced yet and a hugely popular player in the squad died in a car crash. Of course we don't look right ffs

One more thing, if Robbo put in the same performance Kerkez did today he'd be slaughtered here.
I'd honestly consider starting Robbo on Sunday.
i love robbo but i think he would’ve struggled against elanga and probably made a different set of mistakes. i’m kind of surprised kerkez has started every match though
