Because Salah’s movement to receive Alisson’s ball and get behind the defence, and his presence right in front of the keeper had nothing to do with it.

He was like a mongoose, the particularities of his running motion, combined with the bouncing of his hair caused his prey to entirely forget themselves, and after missing the header, gather the ball as if from muscle memory.

Can we not just be happy that Salah is starting to play better going into a crucial part of the season when, on form, he could push us to CL success or top 4 - as opposed to other seasons when he’s ran out of steam in the run in after performing well in the early part of the season?

@Farkmaster’s point that Gakpo is helping things is absolutely spot on - he’s really helping that forward line come together as a unit and he’s providing the link to midfield.

Only one player got their keeper sent off .. their keeper.
He did similar at the start of the match and dealt with the through ball easily as Salah wasn’t there. Salah was the main reason for the sending off. To say otherwise is BS.

Ffs.

He scored the crucial opener in a derby seconds after they rattled our woodwork. Set us up to go on and win.
And today his sublime assist for the second took the wind out of Newcastle and his intervention got Pope sent off which killed the game as a contest after 25 mins.
Prior to the Derby our top goal scorer/creator this year was a fucking Leicester city defender.
Goals win games and are the hardest thing to do.
They inject confidence straight into veins of every single player and his goal lifted the whole team.
He scored in the first game and set another in the second and got their keeper sent off.
He’s head and shoulders above anyone else at the clubs for goals and assists.
What difference did he make?
All the fucking difference.
He is trolling now... So I'd let him get on with it. Pep L looks to have been vindicated with his buys

Nah, pope coming out and then deciding to consciously handle the ball got him sent off. Pope didn't have to come out.

His goal against Everton was an open goal. I doubt he would’ve scored that had Pickford not ran away.

No wind was taken out of Newcastle at all. We were second best for large periods.

Pope got himself sent off. Mo didn’t make him drag that ball back. Had Mo got a touch on the ball before it got to Pope he may have been taken out of the situation and Mo should’ve scored. THEN we may see the wind come out of Newcastle.

Isn’t that Leicester defender our joint top scorer since the World Cup? Which kinda backs up my point.

To say he makes all the difference is a lie. Yesterday Alison made the difference. Not Mo. Against Everton every midfielder made the difference. Not Mo. You keep believing he’s the 2021 vintage if that makes you happy. Put your head back in the sand.

This version of Mo doesn’t beat players with ease, has erratic shooting including not scoring his trademark goals in what seems like an age. He’s on an overall downward curve and we’ve just decided to pay him ridiculous wages when he’s been a disrespectful little gobshite.

He did when he saw Salah flying up the pitch. Obv something they had looked at prior.

Allison was superb even when we were shite. No has made the difference in the last two games. To say otherwise is rubbish.
Doesn’t mean he’s at the height of his powers but he’s absolutely made the difference in our last two wins.

Why did he have to come out? Ball was travelling wide and pope is a wonderful 1 on 1 shot stopper and mo is out of form. Theres no way to paint it as anything other than a stupid decision

He's still not playing at a level justifying his wages but he's at least started contributing to overall team play. That's at least a start. But I'd not go overboard yet-- this needs consistently to be replicated every week.

We pay Jota, Ox, Konate and Diaz half of those wages to be injured so why not Mo? Often self worth is earnt on preceding reputation and loyalty.
There is something for a player to stay fit too.
Regarding whether Pope getting himself sent off not, if he doesn’t then Mo probably goes on and scores. Main thing was, even though Mo was still little off but better, the front 3 seems to be showing signs of some sort of connection which wasn’t true 2 games before.

If Salah, Gakpo, Nunez, Fabinho, Trent & Jota continue their current form trajectory - ie upwards - Badgertits along with Alisson maintain their current high level and Virgil starts to get into a bit of form - even with Gomez, Robbo & Hendo underperforming (although Trent has been good also) - then….

Im not going to say it… but it involves something with big ears and finishing somewhere below 2nd but above 4th….

We’re still not firing - but there are good signs.

This thread is so terrible I find myself agreeing with Dreamie. Such a weird stance some people have taken against Mo. Its like the refs in the Premier league. They've all decided that he has to get murdered to get a free kick or a pen, and on here people cant even give him praise for good involvements or performances just because his salary is now 350k a week.

Just make it stop.

It would probably stop if those defending blindly would acknowledge it's not "oh he's fucking great!!!!" but "2 goals in 2 games, two terrible free kicks that should have gone to trent and many missed opportunities are hopefully the start of a run which brings back the old mo."

It's mind boggling how what has been so evident for 12+ months now is "make it stop"!!!

It's ok - Mo is a legend. Mo is also paid like a legend, and if so, should be giving us a wee bit more.
Too much to ask for? Ignore the thread as people here are more in that camp than in "You're a legend, we will pretend you're playing like the striker that was one of the best to ever wear the shirt and anyone who doesn't agree with that is a Mo hater or maybe something worse, like a dirty Manc Bastard. MOM!?!?!?"

If PSg offered near €100m for Salah, it would be hard figure to turndown if we could get the Georgian

Liverpool will need to fork out €100 million for Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

According to Fichajes, Premier League giants Liverpool will need to fork out at least €100 million to secure the services of Napoli superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old is one of Luciano Spalletti’s top stars this season as Napoli eye a long-awaited Scudetto title. The last time they secured the trophy was when Diego Maradona kitted out in the club’s colours.
Kvaratskhelia has managed to put together 12 goals and 14 assists in 24 games for the club across all competitions this season. Capable of both scoring and assisting goals, he is the full package for a side seeking to bring in a reliable attacker.
The Georgian international is also capable of playing on both flanks and also up top if needed. This could see him fit in well at Anfield where Jurgen Klopp operates a fluid front three. The Reds have struggled for consistency this season and are very much in need of a rebuild next summer.

The club’s left flank is dominated with options such as Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz. The other flank is largely reliant on Mohamed Salah, a player who isn’t getting any younger. One can argue that selling the Egyptian while he still has resale value and then reinvesting the amount in Kvaratskhelia would suit the club in the long run.
As things stand, Liverpool will need to fork out at least €100 million for his services. With the likes of Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and the Manchester clubs also interested, there is every reason Napoli could provoke a bidding war.
Given the massive investment needed in midfield, it is debatable if Liverpool can pay a king’s ransom for their man. Napoli are dogged negotiators and are likely to hold onto their star players until an acceptable bid is received. With the 22-year-old’s current deal running until 2026, they have leverage when it comes to talks.
Liverpool are in need of a makeover and there are few players who can walk into their side in world football. Kvaratskhelia is certainly one of them and could be a key piece in the club’s rebuild. However, with the bulk of their transfer kitty likely to go towards landing Jude Bellingham, the chances of the Reds splashing the cash for the Napoli ace appears unlikely.

Salah has obviously been our best player over the last few years and rightly go down as a legend.

it is fair to say though that his level has dropped and I think the criticism is because in recent games the opposition players are probably being seen as more of a danger to our defence than Salah.

Against Wolves Traore was a constant threat running at us and we backed off.
Against Brighton Mitoma was the same
Against Newcastle is was Saint Maxim
Even Mudryk for Chelsea.

When they got the ball they just ran at us and you could hear the crowd with the expectation. Salah used to be like that but now he doesn't do it. To often he slows the play down by stopping trying to come inside or goes backwards he never seems to run at defenders now with the ball and all to often the defender is getting the best of him. Yesterday he wouldn't even take on a 6'5 left back in a sprint.

They clearly studied us. He came out further earlier in the match. Nothing stupid about it until the hand ball as he panicked as it was Mo and he had studied us.

So he’s not at the height of his powers is he? But we’re paying him money he should be earning at the height of his powers?
Nobody stays at that level forever. We paid him what he was going to be worth to us over the next 4 years on average. Everyone bar our keeper is fucked after last season including Mo and he’s still producing some big moments and influence. So many others are either injured or fallen off a cliff. Bananas you or anyone has this take. It’s so far removed from reality.

And no that doesn’t mean he’s as good as he has been previously but considering all the variables at play he is 100% justifying his salary in my book. It’s not even a discussion point. Plenty of others to have there.

Salah always seems to go through a dry patch from late November till Feb, even with that, he is our top scorer.
If someone offered £100m for Salah I'd begrudgingly sell but no one has. I'd sell Jota before Salah if there was a choice, purely because is just another player who is registered more often than not

You are bananas if you think someone over 30 will suddenly revert back to their 27 year old version. Over the last 6 months he’s been dire and not been an influence. To get to an average value back up he’s going to need to turn into prime Messi. That’s not happening.

It’s entirely worth the discussion because he’s not proving performances worthy of his fat salary.

I hope we’re scouting the shit out of right sided forwards because it looks like a really tough position to fill at anywhere near salahs level

He’s here till the end of his contract then will be allowed to leave on a free.

Signing his replacement is the 2024 transfer window problem.
