To be fair - they’ve spent a fairly large amount on players this summer to look arguably even worse than last season - what is it… £200m+ and they still haven’t sorted out midfield, defence and keeper, while their new forwards aren’t exactly firing.

he and ten haag before him just seemed to need 11 players of their choosing all at once or their masterplan couldn’t flourish. but that’s impossible, i’ve agreed with carragher from the start, you can’t be that tactically inflexible, there has to be some compromise in the interim to deliver results.

he’s losing the fans now too with diallo at wingback and mainoo at left back on the bench. i do kind of feel sorry for him, united is really tough going and premier league football in general right now makes it really hard to pick a team that’s on its arse up and get it going. all very sad!

I like how United thought that dropping a manager playing a specific system into a shite side that didn’t play or have players suited to that system was somehow a work of genius.

I’m truly torn between watching Amorim continue to fuck this up, hoping they give it to Rooney to take fucking it up to a new level or watching Big FlAnge ratchet the comedy up a level or two by playing Slabhead and de “not” Ligt-ning fast in a ridiculously high line in front of Onana.

I’m sure one of their more “emotional” players is close to chucking a full toddler tanty on the pitch - flip a coin between Fernandez & Cunha.

The incredible thing is, they are now at the point where Southgate would likely be a good appointment. Despite being completely shit, he'd get them up to mid table with his boring as fuck long ball football.

I wrote him off after witnessing his 20 minute sub appearance against Fulham. It’s extremely rare that I would write a player off so quickly but he was shockingly bad…..out of possession. His instinctive runs were all wrong, he ran into his teammates’ path a few times and at times he looked like an Under-10 kid just following the ball not reading the play.

With Utd, it's almost going beyond schadenfreude. I almost feel sorry for their fans.

And then I think how intolerable those same fans were for 25 years, and I'm dead comfortable laughing at them again.

they still had the possibility of a manager turning them into something much better thru his wiles, smarts And insights.

But watching him move magnets around - and then watching him utterly unable to observe penalties hiding in the dugout during the carabao cup initial rounds shows a mental fragility and a man somewhat lost.

unless he turns it around very soon - I wonder if he could recover from the impression of those images.

Could you imagine seeing Ancelotti doing that or Klopp? I think he’s gone. He’s done. But they’ll persevere with him for a few more months in denial.

As a person I quite like the guy. I appreciate the way he fronts up after games and doesn't try to blame anyone else. But it also feels like he doesn't have the answers. He's very different to his predecessor in that respect as ten Hag would forever cite his "plan" and imply he had the answers when he didn't.
But you can't overlook his stubbornness in persisting with a system that doesn't work for this club / these players / this league. A truly great manager is one who is able to make the best of what he has, to motivate players to over-perform, to coach players to adapt their game for what is needed in the long-term, and to devise tactics which fit what he has to work with in the short-term.
Amorim doesn't seem to have these skills. He's relying on a miracle at this time, that things will suddenly click despite his inflexibility. That's unlikely.
And he did look broken last night. They played well against Arsenal, certainly didn't deserve to lose and were only undone by a set-piece goal which wouldn't have stood had the on-field decision been different - keeper needed to be stronger but he was fouled, but it wasn't a clear and obvious error. They were poor against Fulham, and got lucky with some key decisions. Last night they were atrocious.
So on the one hand, hating United as is my duty, I want this to drag out as long as possible so it can get as bad as can be for them. But on another level, I want them to put the poor sod out of his misery, he's a human being in a moment of personal, and public crisis. Let him kick his heels for a bit, and then get back to it somewhere else where he can start to re-build his reputation, and hopefully learn to be a bit more flexible.

My guess is that United, in their increasing desperation, had this potential manager in front of them, he looks the part, he had a good record, he undoubtedly said the right things. He had his way of doing things and sold it to them that it would work here quickly.

Obviously they should have given a little more thought into it and probably considered why other clubs had passed on him, but desperate clubs do desperate things.

You never know I suppose. Things can change quickly. Maybe it will just click for him, and all of a sudden, criticism of his stubbornness becomes praise for his determination. Can't quite see it though, as it does look and sound like there is a big divide between the manager and the players, and there's only really one winner in battles like that these days.
