Mignolet gets the Obama treatment again! Always to blame!

Defense and midfield much make sturdy today.

Nothing you can do about that goal.

Still a massive issue in creating chances.

Massive issue is our pressing game. It goes to absolute pot at the end of each game

Yep. We used to be able to get away with it because we'd be out of sight. Without the cutting edge up front, though, the defence and midfield will suffer time and again. Either we change the way we play or stick with it and hope studge makes the difference when he's back

Was it Citeh that Markovic had quite a tasty little cameo against?

I remember the first time I saw him, he looked quite exciting. Since then he's looked out of place

He looked a bit of a sh!thouse to me at times today. IMO he has yet to get used to the pace and power of the Prem.

Again, this is overly downbeat IMHO. We were running out of steam at times in a similar way in the first part of last season. It wasn't till later that we really got motoring. Rodgers' style makes huge demands on player fitness and I suspect this pattern is going to repeat itself as long as he's in charge.

I'm fighting the nagging feeling Mario is going to be a waste of time. Lallana is looking very good - great balance, Dalglish-like tippy-toed close control to get out of trouble and into dangerous areas, plenty of fine touches and brilliant work rate on top of it all. Coutinho was good when he came on.

I thought our defence was looking much more co-ordinated today. Everton's goal was a fluke they couldn't have done anything about.

Post match hurt??

Nah... game 6...

And if truth be told although we didnt win that was our second best performance so far this season and barring a goal which was basically an act of god we woulda won...

I had post match hurt last week..

Tonight, stupid though it seems, i'm pleased because we played pretty well.

Yeah, he did so. For all his bravado in pre-season interviews he's appeared a bit powder puff.

Lallana on the other hand is growing quickly into the shirt...

This is spot on. We deserved the three points and controlled the game for long periods. You can't legislate for goals like that.

I'm pleased enough today and delighted with our performance. Lallana proved he's got the mettle/talent for this side too.

This hurts so bad.

I also sold Dzeko last week in my FF and he has scored 4 in 2 games. I have mario. Muppet.

No end product in the final 3rd as usual. For all of sterlings running and the llama's tippy tappy, very very little was created, and virtually zero clear cut opportunities. It's not helped obviously by balotelli standing there like a lamppost. I'm hoping this all changes when Sturridge comes back in, because at the moment we're looking devoid of ideas in the final 3rd without Suarez.

Agree, agree and agree again.

We're not looking devoid of ideas, we had Suarez and Sturridge both running off the shoulder of defenders last year. It's a two way street, players have to make the runs to prompt the chances. You can't create a clear cut chance for someone who doesn't make the run.

I don't think Mario was anywhere near as bad as alot of people made out, but my pre match point was compounded, that Jagielka and co don't like playing against attackers who look to get beyond them constantly, which is why I suggested putting Sterling up there, because he'd have made the runs that the likes of Lallana and Coutinho would have looked for. The difference with Mario is that he plays alot like a centre forward, which is completely in contrast to how we played so successfully last season. Coming deep and holding up the ball, we needed someone who pinned them back and looked to get beyond.

Yes, one of the rare positives today was Lallana.

He's the white Sterling, in the way he twists and turns and runs at the opponents with the ball at his feet.

I loved the bit towards the end, when he harried and chased down the defenders and tried to win the ball back deep in Everton's half. Rush was known for this sort of thing.

If only we get a striker who knows how to play with us, to team up with Sturridge, Sterling and Lallana, we'd be deadly again.

Fucks sake it's a bit early to write Mario off

It is mate, I just think he's a different type of attacker to what we're used to. He'll prove to be useful, but Rodgers style asks for something different to what he gives us, it'll be interesting to see how Mario adapts.

Mario will adapt.

He's not going to be Suarez levels of closing down, but no one with talent who we could afford would be.

Mario needs a partner. Well see the best of him when Sturridge is back

Ok ... I only watched 7 minutes worth of highlights ...

* Everton created nothing - not one good chance. Nothing even troubled Mign. Good defense? Good midfield play? What changed?
* We created numerous chances it seems - and Mario should have ended the game.
* That was a blatant penalty - like Eto'o's while at Barca vs Chelsea in the dying minutes of the game in the CL when Ballack went crazy.
