Enrique might turn out to be decent, but I'm still not fully convinced. As for Downing, if we end up spending 12m, someone really has a lot to answer for because he's not worth more than 6m tops.
The comparison with Young is ridiculous. Young has more goals and assists in his last 4 seasons than Downing has in his last 10. Not to mention that he's younger, more skilful and far quicker. The Mancs will take his game to the next level (chances being he might be considered world class by next year) while we'll be stuck next year with a one paced 28 year old winger begging to be replaced in the first XI.

We're doing the 'boring' transfers now because the ENGLISH transfer window is open. once the international transfer window opens we'll get the exciting (European) transfers open.
Oh, & Andy, Dann is well better than Skittles. He got injured, Brum went to pot without him, he makes Johnson look good, Johnson is nowhere near as good a defender without Dann alongside him.

FFF, why do you say Dann is better than Skrtel? From whatever little I've seen and read about him, he seems to be a solid ball playing centre half but not someone who is either a leader or someone significantly good in the air. I'd be very surprised if he actually command a starting position ahead of Skrtel.

I still think he's a good player, though. Plus he's relatively young and still improving. Provided he can be acquired at a reasonable price, it should leave plenty of money for the signings that will really make the difference. (Not Stewart Downing.)

The way I see it, we either buy a world class left-back, or we persevere with what we've got and try to develop some of the youngsters. Spending 10M on someone who's really not that good just fucks me off. You can compensate for the odd average player if the rest of your team's quality, Man United do this extremely well for example.
But when the rest of your team is 75% average as well, then it's just further mediocrity. We need more world class players across the board, and spending 10M on someone like Enrique when he's not really going to improve us that much is just a waste of time in my opinion.
City spent 8M on Kompany (I may be wrong with that), Spurs got VDV for 8M, United got Hernandez for 7M. There is serious talent out there that could make a singificant difference, not a fucking tiny difference.
That 10M on Enrique could be better used elsewhere.

Tbh, I cant see why people dont rate him. He's been one of the better left backs in the league this season. Pace, strong, good on the ball and good going forward with a decent cross on him aswell.
If he signs for us he'll be the new left back in the national side, mark my words.
In the end Kenny knows what we need to get the TEAM to perform.

See the way i see it with Enrique is i would rather play Johnson there and Kelly right back, rather than spend 8m plus on Enrique, we should only be buying players this summer who are significantly better than we already have, same as with Adam, Downing, Dann etc, they may improve the squad but i would rather us buy 2 or 3 top quality players rather than 4 or 5 decent options
