will he cost 10 million? everybody seems to be throwing this figure around like its a done deal
Exactly !!!
Which is the exact point.

Continually spending good money on 3rd or 4th choice players who offer minute improvements on existing players and then lamenting the inability to spend more money on better players.

That's practically our mantra.
Maybe the mantra under Rafa, Houiller and the old owners.

But it is certainly not the mantra under these new owners and Dalglish - Suarez and Carroll.

We need a left back Gerry. It's glaringly obvious. Flanagan, Kelly and Robinson are young and still finding their feet, Aurelio is made out of butterfly wings he's that delicate and GJ is out position. Whether that should be Enrique is highly debatable of course.
I'm not saying we don't need one, but if the only ones available are overpriced or not good enough, I'd prefer we wait.
Especially given the fact we have at least 3 young full backs that have proven, at the very least, to not be a liability.
We need a winger a lot more than a left back anyway.

I'm a bit more impressed by Enrique than Ryan.
I'd hope so.

We're never going to be signing Ryan.

I think we can get Enrique for 6-7 mill £, which would be a very good deal.
Premiership proven, loads of potential and will add something to the team.

Is he the type of player that can mature into a very good left back in a much better team? I think so.
At 25, he's about to hit the peak of his career. When Newcastle signed him he was regarded as one of the biggest full back talents in Spain. After a season in the Championship to toughen him up, he has taken hugh steps forward.
If people are making their judgements about his abilites after his first season in the Premiership than I can see why people dont rate him. But this year he has been very good. And would get even better playing in a team like ours.

We look much better when we play people in their natural positions. All credit to Kenny for pushing Johnson out left, because Konchesky was horrendous. BUT, we cant start a new season with him as our left back.
We've had tremendous success with "Premiership proven" players recently ....

It's a bit of a myth anyway.

Maybe, but signing players from another league is always a risk. Its just another positive thing about him tbh

Juve has confirmed the signing of Pirlo tonight. Will be interesting to see what happens to Aqua.

signing every player is a risk, but when someone types "Premiership proven" all I read is overpriced.

e.g. Robbie Keane, Santa Cruz and a whole host of others.

Have a look at the ones we've signed from other Premiership clubs - the majority of them have been failures for the past few years. I think it means absolutely fuck all in the grand scheme of things whether they've played in the Premiership

Its got more to do that we signed shite players.

I'm reckoning Aguero is this summer's Zidane.

I cant see any reason whatsoever why he would choose to join us other than the fact we are LFC.

My money is him going to City to replace Tevez.

Proving the point it means nothing.

Errrr. Okay. If he's a good player and on top of that proven in the Premiership its positive no? Doesnt need time to adapt etc etc etc

I had been told Enrique was going to cost £15 million!
THAT wont happen. If Newcastle want that kind of money we can sign him on a free next year instead.

I'm also on the fence with Enrique. I presumed he was shit after my initial viewing of him but heard great things about him. Many on here will also testify as to how he has vastly improved. He was a beast in one game against United but I haven't studied him much this season. He does seem to be a bit casual similar to the way that Glen can be lackadaisical at times. I was happy with Glen at LB to be honest whether that had the potential to last in the long term or not, I don't know. I also want to see Kelly get games next season and was hoping he could fill the void as back up to CB or full back.

Dann is a bit of a pointless signing in my eyes. He isn't that good that he will walk into the first team and replace Skrtel and will cost about 7 million. Surely Kelly could provide the cover there? He has shown he is slightly injury prone but hopefully he will get a decent run of games. If we go out all out and sign Cahill or Subotic then thats fair enough, they play alongside Carragher and our first team is improved but Dann is a middle of the road signing. Meh. 6/10 signing in my book, he gets an extra point for being a scouser.

I agree that we need a LB more readily than a CB. I'm not convinced about Enrique, but I believe there is a quality footballer in there. He doesn't appear to be showing it with enough consistency at the moment, however.

Name one left back that we could sign for 7-8 mill £ that is better than Enrique?
If there's no better left back, we shouldn't sign any. We'll survive without buying one. Add that money to buying a better quality player in another position.
Isnt that a bit "dim"? Starting the season with one natural left back in the squad. Aurelio is injured for 90% of the season, Konchesky will be sold and Insua is well just fat and slow.
It doesn't matter if they are 'natural' or not. Only that they play well there .... and both Johnson and Wilson have done that. If we sell Insua and Konchesky then we have 6 players that can more than competently and in some cases, excellently, fill two slots when required (Johnson - who everyone agrees has been excellent at LB, Aurelio, Wilson, Kelly, Flanagan and Carra. It's enough. Spend the money elsewhere.
appaz we're still interested in micah richards......
Thats pretty random unless its for cover at RB and CB. I want to see Glen in the team next year. We don't need a RB, especially with Kelly waiting in the wings.

We shouldn't be signing average Scouse players to fill our English quota. Rather use Reserve players who have shown that they're capable back up.

Invest the money in top class FIRST team players who will transform us from also rans to actual contenders.
Wilson has not played well there
oops soz Robinson. OK now we have 7 😉

Maybe, but he has been written off very, very quickly in that position.
With regard to the LB position I wonder what will happen to Insua now his loan spell is up.
