So who do we want/expect/hope?

this isn't about entitlement or being condescending, I'm not expecting us to go after mourino or pep but I am expecting us to go for someone who has 'some' (SOME FFS!!) experience at coaching a club at a top level. look at what the pressure did to roy or even to a lesser extent kenny.

Martinez - 34 wins from 127 games as wigan manager 😵

he manages fucking WIGAN FFS, would fergie win the league with Wigan without those £20-30 million pound players he has.

di matteo and pardew finished ahead of us this season, if it is Martinez you lot won't even give him a chance

Posted this a few days ago, nicked from another forum......

Great manager eh?

Knows how to build a team from the back, you know the foundations of every teams success etc, etc.

Oh he does not, are you telling me he has conceded more than 60 goals every season while he has been at Wigan and that Swansea went from conceding 50 goals in Martinez last season to just 37 the next.

I think its fair to say he is the worst manager to get a full season in Wigans PL history, its not really up for debate either, he simply is.

Martinez:
11/12 15. Wigan 38 11 10 17 42-62 43p
10/11 16. Wigan 38 9 15 14 40-61 42p
09/10 16. Wigan 38 9 9 20 37-79 36p

Conceded 60+ goals every season in charge, thats certainly a sign of a great manager.

Bruce:
08/09 11. Wigan 38 12 9 17 34-45 45p
07/08 14. Wigan 38 10 10 18 34-51 40p

Jewell:
06/07 17. Wigan 38 10 8 20 37-59 38p
05/06 10. Wigan 38 15 6 17 45-52 51p

Nothing apart from the fact that he's supposed to be one of 3-5 people who're going to be interviewed.

We conceded 22 less but earned just 9 marks more. Lambert's Norwich conceded 66 goals too. Besides, was the poster suggesting Bruce and Jewell were better managers, simply on goals conceded? 😛

It will be ok - think of it like this. WORST happens, he does poorly and we find a better manager next year~!

I don't know why you keep banging on about this. No-one's asking for miracles. Let's face facts, our performance in the league last year, after pretty much our heaviest investment in decades, was a fucking shambles, and if it hadn't been Kenny then pretty much everyone would've been calling for him to go. 52 points: eleven (eleven!!) worse than the fucking mess of a season that got Rafa the sack.

No-one's happy that he had to be sacked - it was an unpleasant thing - but I'm getting a bit fucking tired of this kind of hysteria that seems to imply we've crossed some kind of Rubicon just by questioning whether our worst season in nearly 20 years is good enough.

No manager has a divine right to a second year, or even a second 6 months (Hodgson). If we've had a reasonable season in 12 months time (at least challenge for 4th would be my criterion) and the trend is for us improving rather than deteriorating then I'd want the new guy to stay. If not then I probably wouldn't, just as it was with Kenny, Rafa, and Houllier before them.

It was a poor season, but I thought there was positive steps taken. Obviously not enough, and obviously concerned about the signings. I'm not angry at FSG for firing Kenny. I understand, I'm just gutted. A part of me - despite him being an utter loon - agrees with scouse mouse ... This is our club and we are different. I mentioned it yesterday, but part of me - as a fan - died when we sold Fowler to Leeds. He was the player I grew up idolizing - the player who was one of us, a simple boy from Liverpool who made it. This in a way has done the same thing because I realize ... we're a business too. I'm probably overreacting but for a 'kid' who barely remembers the 80s, this was a 'link' to a beautiful time when we were the Kings ...

I guess we moved on, and improved, since we sold God. We'll do the the same after removing the King. Let's just hope we don't fuck with Jesus, or if Martinez comes in, Moses! 😉

When Martin Kelly holds up a league trophy after Raheem scores a hattrick on the final day of the season, then the next generation will have their heroes.

When I was pretending to be John Barnes and idolizing Fowler, I had no clue of, nor interest in, the finances, net spend, owners, chairman, etc. etc.

@paul_tomkins From what I understand, Comolli's "buy PL-only" plan definitely jettisoned with him. Club will not narrow its options this time.

@liam_tomkins Kenny Dalglish is supposed to have refused compensation after being sacked, telling FSG to put the money towards transfers.

neither do city fans, i presume. everything's easier when you're winning.
