The squad has performed really well overall ... We'll need to improve on this squad next year once we confirm top 4, but this year has been tremendous overall. We've not missed a step really despite the injuries.

Not being in Europe has helped us. I hope that squad depth is increased next season if we make the Champions League. We can't rely on Suarez and Sturridge to play every game.

Indeed, three top top players will be more than enough. It's important that the players in reserves, youth feel that they can also make up the rest of the squad and continue to step up.

And in the process we've created a style and a rate of progress which good players will want to take part in. It's all good.

Some of our loanees should come back to bolster the squad (Suso, Borini, Wisdom and perhaps Robinson), and some of the kids may be ready to play a bigger role (such as Tex, Alberto, Ibe). We do need to buy some experience and quality too though.
