I've followed Isak his entire career. Ekitike is nowhere near Isak.
At 17 Isak was starting for AIK in Sweden and was very highly rated. You could see that he was a level above the other players, not physically but mentally.
He then goes to Dortmund, probably the worst part of his career so far. Trouble with injuries and the club, didn't really work out for him.
Shits goals in the Dutch league.
Lights up Laliga.
Then comes to the Prem.
Ekitike has basically had one good season and he's 23. This has Darwin written all over it.
I was dumb enough to say that I didn't think Isak would make it in the Prem because of the physicality, how wrong was I...
I thought there might be a chance to get Isak assuming he had 2 years left, but 3 years really does leave Newcastle holding all the cards. He'd have to kick up one hell of a fuss to even get the ball rolling, and he doesn't really seem the type. Beyond that we'd be looking at just chucking money at them - something they couldn't turn down. And what's that going to take? £180m?

Whats our "breaking point" for Isak? 120 mill ex add ons? As stated above that probably isn't enough to get him unless he hands in a transfer request. He doesn't seem the type.

There's really no urgency with the contract at this point, though, is there? They can just keep him for another year then cash in next summer anyway. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't really see how the deal gets done. The only real hope for me is that it just keeps being talked about - no smoke without fire etc.

In 2027, we're gonna lose Ali, Virg and Mo. And likely, any realistic chance to remain amoung the elite clubs in Europe for at least a year or two after that. It's f@#$ing imperative that we win everything possible in the two seasons before then.

We MUST get to 21 before the big three sign off. Just get whomever makes that most likely.

This is such a BIG question and it deserves a BIG answer. And we can go back to a question earlier about Newcastle selling one big name to generate funds for two or three other deals.I personally think that Newcastle or any other club would find it hard to turn down £150m for any player IF that price is on the table. It's just an astronomical amount of money and if Liverpool were to really back up the speculation I think it turns into one of the biggest sensations in world football very quickly.
And I always go back to CEO Darren Eales admitting on record on a Zoom call that every player has a price. If he is privy to conversations from the powers that be at Newcastle, then it feels like it could be done, yes.
Would it be popular? Of course not. Would it take a high-level replacement to pacify the supporters? Maybe.
Then you think about the player, if he wants the move and his head has been turned by the sway of crazy money, it would be hard to stop them. Isak's agent will be pushing for him to be on better money but he remains under contract for three more years.
Signing an improved contract ends all the talk straight away.
For 150M plus, you need Ronaldo / Messi / Salah levels of fitness (and quality), not this:
As an aside, I had a look at Jota's injury record and WOW is it bad. I mean, we all know it is but the the numbers are nuts. So yeah, Isak isn't that bad but... in the two seasons prior to joining Liverpool, Jota missed 12 and 14 games. Always room for improvement at Liverpool.

At that price point, maybe a better strategy would be to follow PSG's example—buy another technical, pacy attacking midfielder or winger and play three or four of them as a fluid attack.
Yep, real concern. I could have been swayed into thinking 100-120m might be a risky but worthwhile investment, but 150m or more is just completely too far based on his injury history.

It's such a bad market. Imagine trying to explain on this board 15 years ago how we are selling a striker, and when asked why we are selling him you say that he is an erratic finisher who frequently is offside.
Then you tell them that we are looking for 40-50m, but given the options you might want to just keep him.
It's just such a weird time due to how all the attacking talent was developed. Gakpo would be a striker in any other era. He's tall, he's reasonably fast, he has a good shot, but he doesn't want to be in there like all these other forwards. Football told them not to be in there, now we are left looking for a unicorn. Who would have thought that having a cf would swing into fashion again? Such a crazy development in football.

If the budget allows it then get both Osimhen and Hugo. Napoli want both Cheesy and Nunez. Selling Osimhen allows them to do that. It would mean offloading Jota who is now at the level to enjoy playing in Saudi. The problem are new players to integrate. I read somewhere Slot doesn't mind working with new players

Course it won't but I didn't think we would spend £200m and get back only £22m in sales. I think we are spending big now and building a squad that would last two summer windows. I think they said they were willing to spend £130m on Isak which is what Osimhen and Ekitike would cost which is why I mentioned it. Gordon and Wharton are trending so added them in.
I know it won't happen thats why I said "imagine".
I would imagine we would have a net spend of £200-300m. It feels so good to know we can go for the top targets

Whoever it is, i think most fans will trust their decision. We have at least 4 people that have eyes for (talent spotting) Edwards, Ward, Hughes and Slot. Right now I don't think there's a more organised club
