yup

depending who we buy now just determines how many points ahead we are by seasons close

Of course Neil, I put it to you sir that we performed really well under Kenny last year as anyone with a team we're looking to improve upon. Of course others are but if you don't have a little faith and hope for the coming year then you may as well give up now.

still confident of winning the league?
Yes. I think selling Meireles may make me have a wobble, but the team that ended last year (near enough)

------------------------------------Reina-------------------------------------
Flanagan-----------Carragher------------------------Skrtel-------------Johnson
----------------------------------Spearing------------------------------------
------------------------Lucas-----------------Meireles------------------------
-------Kuyt-------------------------------------------------Maxi--------------
---------------------------------Suarez---------------------------------------

Gave me plenty confidence to believe we will given that it was mostly missing Carroll, Gerrard, Kelly, Aurelio, Agger etc and of course Aquilani 8)

Its a good team that needs a few tweaks and has enough about it to adapt and change depending on what we need.
And we have Kenny in charge and if you wont run through walls for the king then youre in the wrong game.

Im massively uninspired by our transfer dealing but my insistence that we would win the league was bourne from what we did in January (Kenny, Carroll, Suarez) so nothing has changed in that regard.

We will win the league.

I'm sure that will get received very warmly Lewy. You go for it.

Hahaha

Yup, all this getting carried away in June with two full months of the window left is getting a bit silly, if that's the implication.

-------------------------------------Reina-------------------------------------
Kelly----------------Carragher-------------------Skrtel-------------Johnson
------------------------Gerrard-----------------Adam------------------------
-------Mata---------------------------------------------------Downing-------
------------------------Suarez-------------Carroll----------------------------

Subs - Jones - Agger - Aurelio - Lucas - Henderson - Kuyt - Wickham

That could win the league.

Presumably you're piling all of the defensive duties on Gerrard in that midfield?

We played some ace footy after Dogleash took over so I'm confident, but no one can be happy with the players we've bought or been linked with. I hope I simply don't understand and it's all above me.

I doubt if Henderson was signed to be a sub
I doubt he was bought to be an instant first team player also. He'll need development and easing into the team. That said I expect he'll play a fair few games.

Still to soft in the middle.

are you talking about adam's belly?

As was part of the reason for joining, if it's a choice between romantic yet stupid optimism or realistic yet bitterly disappointing pessimism, then I'll take the former.

2011/12 League Winners to be!

I'd suggest quite a few on here are feeling exactly the same.

Well him and Adam can defend. I know Adam isn't that mobile, but either was Alonso and he always more than put in his defensive duties.

It's a moot point anyway. That team would start most games, obviously it's not going to start them all, games against the bigger teams we can switch to 5 in the middle. Like so.

Nope, i'd like to be wrong but 3 months ago I was confident but :
- ending the season with 2 defeats
- Not convinced of Carol and the more we play him, the less fluent we look and not sure if we can make it work with him, but if we can then it will be a whole new story.
- Selling a Meireles would be a massive mistake and completely unnecessary.
- players linked with so far and signed already don't give me that much confidence, not convinced if the pattern of players we been linked to is the right one for future.
- United, winners last season and already the quality of the signings made suggest they will improve upon pretty much on every weak link from last season.
- Chelsea, yet to spend but pretty sure they will soon.

But a win on opening game can bring some confidence back.

Rubans, who have united signed who's quality?

De Gea-risky young keeper. Better keepers than him have failed in the PL
Jones-Unproven CB who will be 3rd/4th choice
Young-inconsistent brainless winger

And considering VDS and all of uniteds wingers are better than the players they've bought, i don't quite get your pessimism

De gea is the best out of the 3 imho, but not enough to convince me.

Reason to be confident.

1. Reina best keeper in league.
2. Suarez - simply awesome.
3. Gerrard fit.
4. The king.
5. Better Squad.
6. Harmony.
7. Carroll fully fit.
8. Less games to play.
9. Some great youngsters to freshen things up.

not happy with our dealings thus far..

Meireles gone? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat... Someone needs a fucking punch if he leaves.

I still think we need quality fullbacks in.. We cant rely on Johnson being fit and the backups are still very young and lack experience.

If our transfer window closed today.. id say 4th is the best we could achieve.

It just looks like they improved, De Gea as a keeper is good as any in terms of talent, will see how he copes with premiership and I think Young has good potential but at Utd will get a lot better, also think they will a buy a CM, that will be their most important signing.
Just think we neeeded to up our games this summer especially interms of signings and if we end up signing Downing and Adam, just don't think it's going to improve us from 6th to first. It wouldn't have been enough 10yrs ago, and in the current premiership world of City, Utd and Chelsea, it's nowhere near enough, on paper anyway.

Adam cannot, and does not, defend. He's practically allergic to it.

And speaking of moot points, this entire discussion is moot, since Lucas will obviously start most games.

Young is crap. The quality of the whole division isn't what it was a few years ago. With the departures of Alonso and Ronaldo and the collective deskilling of Arsenal I wouldn't be too worried about the competition if we weren't being linked with average Villa type peeps.
