Post Match UCL wk4 Real Madrid (H) 1-0

Great result, great preformance.. Happy... 5 days to city on Sunday so same team... To say with a outside chance for league then Sunday is a must win

Good performance. Great work ethic. 1-0 flatters them fascist hanky wavers.

Not really the time or place to get all sour and bring the energy down, and that's not what I'm trying to do. However, I would like to temper expectations. It was never really this game under the lights on a big European night against a huge name that would prove we had turned the corner. It wasn't even Aston Villa at the weekend. Nor is it City on Sunday. Our Achilles heel this season has been when teams have gone direct with quick transitions that we've looked shaky. The games after City will be the true acid test. I actually think we might actually do okay at The Etihad.

We do well when teams try to go toe to toe and play football against us. We bottle it against the low block, counter attackers, as Arne keeps telling everyone. Show a marked improvement against those sides and I'll be back on board. But last two games have been just what the doctor ordered. Keep it up. That level of commitment is the minimum. Though, I don't think they haven't been 'trying' as such during our bad run. I just think the tactics were hopeless and the players were shellshocked.

On a sidenote, maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I'm not really a fan of the treatment Trent is getting. Yeah he's a little snide and all that, but defacing his mural, calling him a rat, booing him nonstop etc is proper melt behaviour. It's Paddy Pimblett "I'm an uber Scouser. Look how Scouse I am" behaviour.

I understand giving him a bit of stick and all that to put him off his game, as Bellingham said in his post match interview actually. But I think it's going too far. Look at Michael Owen. Look at how's he treated now. That's much more damaging and sobering for Trent. Owen should be an everlasting idol. Instead, he's greeted with a smoggy air of ambivalence. A giant meh. "You weren't all that. We replaced you and you missed out." That approach, I feel, would be a more dignified and ultimately impactful way to handle it all.
I agree that the bigger test is against the low-block and more direct teams. I wonder if our approach will change?

Will we hold Gravy back more? Be less aggressive with our FBs? We certainly need more bodies to win the second balls of the long balls.

It could end up being some boring football, if we decide to be less attacking against the low block, but maybe results will improve.

Owen was booed too after he joined Newcastle.
He got the "meh-treatment" after he retired.

So Trent is just following in his footsteps.

Can't find the vid of him returning with Newcastle but here's the Man U one:

Yeah, true to an extent. But it was never as volatile as it is with Trent. When he was warming up he was getting called a rat, his mural getting defaced etc. it's a bit much for me.

We played Gravvy-Szobo-Macca against United though… Maybe dropping Kerkez was the magic sauce?
Robbo for Kerkez brings a lot more calmness in build-up play at the back

But the principal change is Ekitike-Szobo being at the center of our 4-man press. Our two best athletes - they should lead the press every game.

Just doesn't work with Isak or Gakpo, who are sub-par in their intensity.

In general, I hope Gakpo is binned as a starter. He's a squad player at best

Isak was a strange signing, as I kept saying over and over. Not sure how he'll be integrated into this team either in the short-term or the long-term

I will try to ping both and find out.

Update from Kriztian:

Time flies my friend, and with kids growing up and LIFE happening I just can’t find the time anymore ; say hi to the gang from me
🙏🏼
😊

PS I will drop a “hi” on the site if Im going to Anfield in the new year

Cheers

Owen played for Man U.
Personally I think that is far far worse than Trent leaving for Real

Yeah, and yet Trent is getting worse abuse. A lot of it is to do with today's generation and social media etc, but I would've thought the match-going crowd would've reacted better.

I know irrational attachment is kind of the point of being a football fan but hating and booing ex-players is beyond where I'm able to carry the pretence, personally.

They showed some fan last night absolutely screaming at Trent and pumping his fists, kissing the badge on his top, etc, and I just thought what a complete twat he looked.

I'm fine hoping Trent during the game. I dont want him to do well against us, I want us to win. Defacing the mural is shit behaviour obv.

I think of it like us booing Sterling when he played against us and he was always shit, maybe partly because of it. That's good

Some people, as i do in part, feel jilted by him. It's like an ex girlfriend who dumped you for someone else, rocking up with that bloke and expecting you to be grateful for the good times together whilst he's just standung there looking smug.

He had it all here, left a UCL and title winning team whilst pretending he wanted to stay, leading us up the garden path. We idolised him, and it turns out he didn't care enough to be honest with us, and was always winding down the contract, always leaving.

We feel massively let down.

And most of those others that have left in less than glorious circumstances have often had the "i have a better chance of trophies" excuse. He didnt even have that. He left the best version of ourselves.

Its hard to come to terms with when you thought the love was reciprocated.

I get the booing, i get the hate.

It's the loving him in the first place that I struggle with. I guess there's just only so far I can go with the craziness.

I do also get this. But as Peter said, don't get attached.

It was obviously a case of him leading us on, and I saw it coming 2 years ago.

But all the behaviour surrounding it seems a bit small time. It seemed more volatile than the booing him to put him off during the game.

Move on, do better, win more trophies, ignore him. That's how we really get under his skin.

Madrid had won all bar one of their games before last night, then they come to Anfield against a wobbling Liverpool side and were lucky not to ship 3 or 4 goals. Sure, they had lots of the ball, but their top players, Courtois aside, did nothing of note.
Meanwhile Antony and Marcus Rashford are tearing things up for their teams, domestically at least.
La Liga is a farmer's league.

his treatment last night is entirely appropriate. Not for leaving. But doing it dishonestly. On the sly. Screwing the club out of a fee. There’s a way to leave that people will be ok with.

“It’s not as important how people feel when you arrive as how people feel when you leave”. Some bloke of some import to us all.

Trent had a great example as a role model. He still acted like a rat. And now Konate and co will see what lies ahead if they do similar. Massive deterrent for some. VVD’s interview response kind of said it all as well.

It's as if we've all forgotten the Summer of 66 stunt he pulled. He can fucking get fucked.

I think the club think so too, why else would they leave his stupid fucking mural up if they didn't want someone to deface it?

His face doesn't fit at Madrid and he's not getting much love at England either. It's not petty to love this. Think you're a superstar do you? Well this is what you get. Fuck off.

The manager has said he’s not going to tell fans what to think. VVD’s minimalism in the interview said it all too. If people betray you in their actions, you don’t green light them. You set the standard so others will think twice about it. Next time. Konate you're next.

I always thought Trent acted really badly in all this, said it all along, which was a weirdly lonely position to be in until he actually formally announced he was going and then it all just switched. He's a prick. I just don't CARE that he's a prick.

I'm not even saying I'm right to feel like this. I just do.

Tbh, with his start at Real being rather indifferent (and that's charitable), I'd actually forgotten he'd existed until this week.

Right just watched the whole match.

What a brilliant display. Hopefully those who wanted Slot out and compared him to Rodger’s and thought he was a fraud can STFU now.

I’m not saying he’s going to win more trophies but he’s shown yet again he can get us performing.

Everyone was fantastic all over the pitch but like any group of champions consistency to lift their game week in week out will be the challenge.

Back to last seasons formation and style with Robbo coming back in and Bradley getting a run of games and hey presto we look world beaters again.

Wirtz was outstanding and while Salah continues to be slightly off he was infinitely more involved, won the most duals and had the most take ons too.

Play to his strengths and we won’t go far wrong this season regardless of what the begrudgers say.

I fully expect us to lose on Sunday away to City but after that we should be able to put a decent run together injuries aside.

He thought he was going to win the balloon doors, but he'll have to settle for the balloon head.

Careful what you wish for.

Can you even fathom how fucking deluded this bellend was to think he was going to win that golden bollock thing as a fucking RIGHT BACK?!

He can't even get in the fucking England team as a right back!
