Winter transfers

Can we officially call ourselves dickheads for not signing Semenyo yet? Who didn't want him?
I had reservations in the summer, but thought after the way the season had gone we should be trying.
We can't compete with city when it comes to transfers though

I can, reluctantly, understand the hesitation in signing attacking players pending the appointment of a new head coach.

But is there any manager who doesn't play with Centre backs, and wouldn't like a decent one like Guehi? It seems like we are a bit too overconfident in our appeal at times.

Think I would have preferred Cherki and Semenyo to Isak. Gakpo as backup to Ekitike.

Would probably still have had some change to left over to perhaps push through the deal for Guehi.

Diabolical.

If we can't afford him now, why would the summer be any different? We'd still be up against City, and maybe Barca, Bayern and Arsenal as well.

It doesn't benefit him to go now.

Just accept he's not coming here. The only reason anyone gives a shit about this player is because he's English. He's whatever and he's not tall.

Whenever we get this fixated on a player it's clear they aren't coming and that some cunt is going to trot out the whole idea that we don't have a plan b because we only want this player. Then we will get one injury and finish 8th.

That is a little illogical though. Just pay him whatever we'll be paying in the Summer anyway.

The upside for him is he will have a chance at winning something (FAC or CL or at least maybe going deep in the CL for big matches on exotic shores). For us it alleviates the problems associated with CB + RB and would likely ensure CL qualification (for the record I'm pretty certain we'll get it regardless but it will be hugely costly if we don't so why take the chance).

The only difference is the £30m - CL qualification is a far greater loss and we were willing to pay that anyway.

In the summer there are more bidders, and the only thing they are bidding with is his wages.
That's an assumption though. More bidders doesn't equate to any desire to move to them.
Realistically there's probably only 2-3 teams that would interest him and they will have made that interest known already.

Bournemouth are interested in Rayan as a long term successor to Semenyo. We'll be contemplating buying him for 3 times the fee in a few years time, no doubt.

We're not signing anyone are we? We have had 4 months to see very clearly that our defence doesn't have the depth it needs. If the overlords recognised this they would have lined something up early in the window. Feels a big waste.

Think the Guehi thread was prematurely locked.. loads of people will be wanting to vent.

Two players who wanted to come here.. both signed by City.

Fuck me.

They didn't want to come here, they wanted to go somewhere better.

Wee've een this fucking movie before. For all the talk of excellence at all levels and our brilliant data and everything else, our squad isn't adequate, and we are constantly behind when dealing with everything. Look at our cb situation. In the summer of 2027 as it stands we will have a 21 year old who missed a year of development due to a bad injury. That's it. That's the future planning for losing the best centreback ive ever seen.

This club always frames things like they are so smart for not impetuously making stop gap solutions. How about you don't fucking need a stop gap solution in the first place. We need a cb for depth, we need a CB for now, and we need multiple CBS for the future.

Can't do good business in January. That is hard, you're right. So don't fucking do it then you cunts. Or don't let the good centreback we had go.

Do we want our future developing cb playing alongside the best to ever do it? Nah, let's fucking wobble our way there and then buy 3 CBS in one window, because it's easy to find three players at the same time but it's hard to replace one in a fucking year.
