High wages?

It's gota be quite a bit, he is on his last decent contract before moving to America or something like that.
Having said that we have worked hard to reduce the wage will, I can't see the club going and ruining the hard work over Bellamy

I think he wants to play for a top team again. Emphasis on play. At city he was never getting a look in.

How many years has he got left on his City contract ? They will have to subsidise his deal for the length of it. He probably won't cost as much as we think.

I'm 31 years of age now, I've had nine operations and most people are probably in better nick than me.

'The future isn't great for me and I don't like to look too far ahead.

My body is a lot different to most people of my age because of the work I've had done. I take it season upon season because of the condition of my knee. It doesn't allow me to look much further than the next couple of months.

These are quotes he made last March ...ok I think they relate more to his future playing for Wales but still , that'd be my slight concern with signing him back - that he doesn't have the pace still .
But all in all if his main role is as a sub/backup then I can more than live with the 'risk' of the deal - well unless he starts getting frustrated on the bench and goes mental .

How long til we see some grainy video of Carroll and him kicking off at melwood ......probably filmed by some fat geordie on a wheelie bin !!

He's cover for Downing on the left more than any cover for Suarez and Carroll folks.
[/quote]

I doubt that. He's pacy but he's no winger.

A one-year deal with an option to extend sounds ideal. What we don't want is another Joe Cole on our hands - an old, frequently injured player suddenly past his best, on high wages, with a three-year deal.

Its more to do with the formation he's been played in though. He can cover both positions mentioned but as to which player he is most similar to it would have to be Suarez, albeit a shitter (but still good in his own right) Welsh version 8)

Thing is Bunny, Cole was brought in more as a first teamer and he failed to deliver. With Bellamy it would be quite clear cut. Backup for the left and upfront and impact sub off the bench. Agreed about the injuries part too though.

This. And judging from the clip Hansern posted earlier, he played mostly on the left for Cardiff as well. It's where he's always looked at his best.

It's been a tendency for us to play attacking players in roles unsuited for them (getting players who like running on to the ball to play in positions where the ball's played to their feet, and getting players who like having the ball played to their feet to play in positions where they're asked to play off the defence's shoulder). It's not always thought through, but it can be a terrible mismatch.

Bellamy is clearly to my mind a player who likes having the ball played to his feet, and using his pace and ability to run at players. I'd be disappointed if we play him up top or of the defence's shoulders as he's going to just be uninvolved and caught offside half the time. He's a player who needs to be slightly deeper and more invovled in the game, and the wing forward role (on the left preferably) is really what is thus best suited for him.

the injures are a concern but seeing as he wont be playing full games and wont be playing twice a week it may help (that doesn't seem to be helping aurelio mind you but I digress).

Richard Keys(yes he's a bellend) on Talksport has just said Jason McAteer has told him he doesn't think we're getting Bellamy.

oh, well that's that then ::)

What I don't understand is how paying off the remainder of his contract and waiving a transfer fee is "getting him off the wage bill" for City.
Surely if they pay off the rest of his contract then its the same as having him on the wage bill?
Only Bellamy benefits - he gets paid twice, the remainder of his contract by City and by us if he comes here as well.
City lose the possibility of a fee and of using the player in an emergency (I know they'll never need to with their monster squad).

Anyway can't blame him - just don't get it.

See where you're coming from, but Downing's main role (albeit not his only one) is to cross the ball in for others, whereas Bellamy's has always been to do more of the finishing himself. It's true that he has a habit of playing primarily down the left, but the same applied to Henry and (spit) Torres.

Well obviously his agent's going to go into the meeting claiming his client's due the full amount, obviously the club will negotiate the price down, maybe half the amount due over the contract. Just a guess.
If a club offered a couple of million for Bellamy right now, they'd still have to pay off the remainder of the contract to Bellamy if he doesn't hand in a transfer request so letting him go with a payoff is an easier solution for them.
That's my take on these situations anyway.

Surely they will only have to pay the difference between what we pay and what they were paying.... that would be the negotiation I reckon.... Liverpool have offered me 75K a week you pay the 15K a week difference to make my current 90K/week over the two years.... then the haggling starts.

I absolutely applaud his actions and hope the charities are a success but an employer should pay him wages for the work he does and not support his personel philanthropy.
