I don't hate him or anything and every player has my support when they're playing but I thought those comments were poorly timed and even more poorly poorly considered.

I'd be looking for a replacement now because I don't want to be wondering if he's gonne start this crap again if we have a bad start or run next season, or ever again for that matter.

Let's also not forget that the young Bulgarian we had on the books was telling people that Reina hasn't exactly kept his desire to leave a secret when he's in Melwood either.

I've read the quotes, but forgive me if i don't believe 100% that that is exactly how it went down.

It's quite possible that he was misquoted, happens ALL the time, but he never denied these comments mind

How do you feel about Stevie Bunny?
Seriously, it took me a few years to learn to love him again. And he's been our best player for the last decade, and it wasn't Manchester Fucking United he flirted with, and he decided not to leave because it would have been too big a wrench, emotionally.

So Pepe's got no chance of worming his way back into my affections, basically.

I'm sure he's devastated.

That's fair enough, but we don't know. And the fact that such speculation has stemmed from it should be alarming enough for the player to set the record straight. And before people say that players shouldn't have to continually justify themselves in response to speculation, this is a bit different.

Like i said mate he might well of said it, i just don't take it as 100% fact just because it's reported in the media.

Well I posted the link to the radio interview, does anyone on here speak Spanish?
Rosco does

In fact, Reina, Torres and Gerrard – the club's three greatest assets – were told they could not leave at a time when the club were looking for a new buyer. Reina will not admit it and nor will he deny it. "The clauses in my contract are between me and the club," he says simply – but he secured a buy-out clause understood to be in the region of £20m. In the meantime, little changed to encourage him to stay. In fact, the handling of Torres's departure did the opposite. Loyalty cuts both ways.

"The offer for Torres came back again," Reina says simply. The offer for him did not. But it will. And then? Reina puffs out his cheeks. "I can't … I don't want to guess what the future holds."

This bolded part gets me..

Mihaylov believes Liverpool will be in need of a new goalkeeper in the near future as Reina has a desire to return to his home country.

"I know from my agent Pepe Reina wants to go back to Spain," he said. "His desire dates back one or two years.

Didn't he then renewed his contract?

Pepe gave an interview with Cadena Cope and here's some points of interest from that interview:

Asked when he's going to Manchester(Utd) - "To Manchester?

Never. I don't know, it's not my intention...but I imagine it's not their intention either"

He's told that when the De Gea story popped up, Pepe's name surfaced in a list of possible links - "Well, i imagine they've been monitoring and following many keepers, not only De Gea or Pepe Reina but I'd imagine 5, 6 or 7 other options and I don't know if I was one of them but if your information is good then i guess it's possible, i don't know"

Most importantly, on his future -

"I'm happy, calm and comfortable here, looking towards the future which I reckon will bring a lot of happiness and hopefully the new project with the new American owners will be a convincing one, attractive and ambitious above all"

Will it be a convincing, attractive and ambitious one or will it start like this season?

"It's my understanding and based on what I've gathered from the people here, that were will be bringing in some important players, continuing to grow and hopefully in one or two years we will be in the place that Liverpool deserves to be, which is fighting for titles"

Would you like Rafa back at Liverpool?

"It's difficult. Obviously, Benitez brought me here but that doesn't mean that i'm unhappy with Dalglish, quite the opposite, I think he's the ideal man for Liverpool at this moment."

Then the rest of the interview was just him talking about the Madrid-Barcelona semis, the future of Fabregas, his happiness for Torres finally scoring a goal and he mentioned that his wife is due in a month to deliver their third child, the first boy that he'll name Luca Reina.

If Reina moans to the press so be it, he is still an excellent goalie and we should do everything we can to keep him. Look at Fabregas/Barcelona, every year it is the same story but still Arsenal do what they can to make him stay. We shouldnt get rid just because a player hurts your feelings and doesnt live up to your ideal of the loyal soldier who stays with the club no matter what. We should only get rid if someone is shit, or we are offered silly money and we have a replacement which is just as good or better.

Fabregas isn't thinking of moving to Spurs though.

If you say "never" you shouldn't then need to expand upon it. Yet he does, by saying he doesn't know...

what's he on about?

Confirmed completely missed it. Yeah it sucks, but what can you do.

I'd like to think "Never would I go, I don't know about their interest, it's not my intention to go"... is the way he means. Either way, don't give a shite.

I think he's trying to ride two horses at once, hoping to say enough to deflect criticism while also keeping his options open. I can understand a player wanting to do that in private discussions with the club, but I find it much harder to forgive the fact that he's playing these games in public.

That could be it, but it looks to me like he's decided to stay and he's trying to find a way to deflect criticism of his earlier interview.

If he just emphatically said 'nevah' now everyone would just think it's because he couldnt get a better offer elsewere.

I've never "loved" Reina so I'm not bothered, although I completely agree with Bunny et al that he's well out of order.

He's a good keeper though and unless Arsenal come back in for him I suspect he's not really got anywhere else to go. Sucks to be him, huh?

Goalkeeper Jose Reina has given a further indication of his desire to stay at Liverpool.

Earlier this week, the Spaniard denounced speculation linking him with a summer move to bitter rivals Manchester United, who have been touted as potential pursuers of his services.

However, Reina believes there is a feel-good factor about Melwood training ground under boss Kenny Dalglish, and the goalkeeper says it is reflecting in their results and the support.

"When the results are better and the team is winning people are happier and the mood in the dressing room is always better," he added.

"Melwood is a happy place. When we have to work we are the first to do it and when it is time to joke, we like to joke and have fun too.

"You can see that the fans are much more optimistic now. The team is playing better and that is easier for them.

"I think we want to grow and we have to grow. The owners and the people in command of the 'boat' see we have to bring in some players. "

"We have always felt their support though because they are so loyal. It is always great to have this kind of support."

Reina praised the work of the coaching staff amid Dalglish's return to the managerial hot-seat in January and he expects the Reds to invest further this summer.

"Kenny Dalglish, Steve Clarke, Sammy Lee and all the staff have done a great job from January onwards," he said.

"I think we want to grow and we have to grow. The owners and the people in command of the 'boat' see we have to bring in some players.

"We have to be right in those transfers and the players that we already have can be important for the new project.

"I'm very optimistic and I believe we are going to be better."
Fifth-place

After a disappointing first half to the campaign under former boss Roy Hodgson, Liverpool now have fifth place in their sights and host Newcastle at Anfield on Sunday.

Just three points shy of Tottenham, who have a game in hand, Reina is not giving up hope of overhauling them but stressed the importance of their home form both this season and next.

He said: "We have to take it one game at a time. We have to make sure that we don't drop points at home because we also have Tottenham to come here.

"Our home form has been key and it is important if you want to be up there.

"Just look at Manchester United's results at home. They say everything about why they are up there so we have to be like that if we want to challenge at the top.

"We have to try to win all of our games and after we will see. I believe if we win them all we will be in the fifth position and that is probably the closest and most important target."

Wonder is the binnyed bit a little dig at his old mate Fernando?
