Sevilla post-mortem

I didn't think we were that great in the first half to be honest. We were good but we just had the rub of the green to score. I mean, how often do we score from corners? They weren't even direct corners but flicks ons which are arguably harder to execute. And we scored 2! Usually with this kind of performance we would expect to go into half time 1-0 up.

And Hendo needs to be dropped. As i mentioned before, it's not good enough just running alot and bollocking at the referees.

Hendo does a job. He may not do it brilliantly, but I don't think he can be dropped until we get someone better.

I don't think he's right physically, and that's wrecking his game and his focus. It's like the shutters have gone down - at his best he's dynamic and confident, passing bold diagonal balls and making some aggressive forward runs. There's none of that at the moment. And it's not an attitude problem - whether someone likes him or hates him as a player, they can't question his commitment and professionalism - so I think it's down to this nagging injury he's still dealing with. It would be best for him and the team if he was rested and sent wherever it is to get specialist treatment. I think it will help once Lallana is back in the team - I think his work rate and invention reassures Henderson and encourages him to concentrate on a smaller area of responsibility - but Henderson still needs to feel right in himself, and I don't think that's the case.

We have plenty of options at CM in the squad with Henderson, Can, Wijnaldum, Coutinho, Lallana (now he's fit), Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Grujic & Ejaria.

But we don't have the right balance or shape to our game when the pressure is on. Really hoped that Grujic would step up this season because he seems to have the physical & technical attributes for the deep midfield position and has more aggression to his game than some of the other fannies and even if he can be a bit rash, at least he does try to put his foot in. We were so passive in the 2nd half v Sevilla, it was crying out for someone to show some bottle and get onto the ball, dictate the play.

We may have to file Grujic away with Robertson in the "can't-understand-why-he-doesn't-get-a-look-in" camp.

I totally agree with you regarding the first half. We were not that great .. it was more a case of putting away a load of half chances that we usually fail to put away. Also did not feel we were in such control of midfield that much in the first half because seville were holding back a little. It was just easier comtaining them. Anyway what i find funny about this post mortem is that Liverpool fans shocked at giving away a 3 goal lead. Now did anyone ever start saying the AC Milan defence was shite all those years ago....oh no sevilla are not AC Milan...really ? I actually think of them as the Liverpool of Spain in terms of overall performance in their own league.

Was never convinced by the 3 goal lead at half time. Was 50-75% expecting a comeback. So not bothered as we are still in it and can still top the group. The CL is not something that is an easy ride.
