Coutinho

Brodgson's right; if he adds goals to his game he will become world class.

Pretty much what I've been saying for about 2 years.

And agree with whomever up above suggested that the Coutinho/Silva comparisons are futile. He really reminds me of Aimar.

And the Madrid or Barcelona will come for him and he'll leave.

Ace.

Cynical me can't help thinking that to deflect from our woeful inability to strengthen our weak areas in the transfer window this story was released at precisely the right moment.

Coutinho is a really strange choice of player to be giving out about, when we have the likes of Borini, Lambert and Balotelli still in the squad.

The frustration must come from the fact that he clearly has all the assets (we've seen him hit powerful shots e.g. Hit the crossbar against Madrid) and he makes some epic passes but he is still very up and down. I do have to say that at the moment I think he is one of the reasons we are in our current run of form as he is having more of his positive moments than at the start of the season.

I don't think anyone is wrong to demand/want more from someone who clearly has so much talent. When it comes to the likes of Borini or Balotelli they have fundamental flaws that most can't deal with e.g. lack of technical ability (Borini) or lack of application (Balo)

Listen between him, Sturridge and Sterling that is a front three that should put the fear of god into teams.

I think a lot of the frustration this year with the little magician stems from the fact that for a large part of the season he has had a forward line of static muppets, added to that a player(lallana) who was taking time to settle and slowing the game down. Now we have moved to having him as the focal point, with sterlings pace up top it has coincided with his form getting better. People mention his shite passing but in his defence when you have to pass the ball through the eye of a needle 'cos no striker\forward will move then you are going to misplace passes, the same applies when you have to do everything because the sum total of a teams creativity is in your feet, unless sterling drops deep and goes past everyone.

New contract signed; minimum fuss. Sterling is more direct on the field, but off it, Coutinho cuts through it faster.

Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce Philippe Coutinho has signed a new long-term contract.

The 22-year-old has committed his future to the Reds by penning the deal at Melwood today.

Brendan Rodgers signed Coutinho from Inter Milan in January 2013 and, to date, he's made 81 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals. He has also re-established himself in the Brazilian national squad.

Moments after putting pen to paper on the contract, Coutinho told Liverpoolfc.com: "I'm really happy. It's a dream come true playing for this great club and being part of this squad.

"Today I've committed my future to the club and for this I'm feeling very pleased.

"This club is great and the fans have always supported me, so I've been eager to sign this new deal since conversations started. Today is a very happy day."

He added: "It means so much. This club has given me the opportunity to play and believed in me even though I hadn't been playing regularly at my previous club.

"I've had a great reception since my first day here. As I always say, Liverpool is a big family and I'm a happy person here."
Coutinho has been in outstanding form in recent weeks for Liverpool, leading to him being voted as the club's Player of the Month for December.

After claiming two assists in the Reds' 2-0 victory over West Ham United on Saturday, Rodgers reserved glowing praise for the No.10, describing his performances as 'top level'.

Good job. He's got some way still to go but he's pushed on this season and it's great to see.

Only 22 years old.

Reading some of the comments in here, it's safe to assume he should have already won multiple World Player of the Year awards, couple of Golden Boots, and made consecutive appearances in the Team of the Season.

But oh well, Coutinho most probably won't improve much in the next 5 years anyways. He's already hit his peak. Yes, at 22. What a shame.

Yes, because that's what people are saying

Absolutely brilliant news.

I wanted Phillipe before he signed after seeing some amazing stuff from him at the U20's world cup.
Since then he has equal parts dazzled and frustrated, but he is just a child. Hope he becomes the man for us.

Great we've signed him long term. The boy is extremely close to exploding all over this league.
He's been our spark for a good dozen games now. With Sturridge fit I can see his number of assists and goals shooting up.
I could watch him play all day.

He's quality and has bags of talent. He just needs time to gather game intelligence and to work on that killer instinct. I'm sure it will come with time. Or would folk rather we get rid?

Because Coutinho has the potential to be a world great

Lallana doesn't

Lallana is in his prime and cost 20-odd million. He deserves to have at least some sort of scrutiny.

I get your point, but it ends up making me think you'd complain about Ronaldo if he didn't score a hat trick every game.

Given how much we paid for Coutinho, his age, his relative lack of recognition before we signed him, he's been nothing less than a superb signing.

Yes, we want him to do better, we want all our players to be better... but for the last few games he's playing as the best creative midfielder in the league. We can't ask for much more than he's giving recently.

Lallana was wank tonight in fairness.
He probably needs a few games to get up to match fitness.

Lallana does deserve criticism, I don't deny it, Yet no one is starting a thread on him to complain about him.

I think it's the expectation on Coutinho that makes him more of a talking point. Obviously if Coutinho continues at this level for the rest of his career with us, then we'd all be happy. It's the feeling that if he improved his shooting, or his general play in the box, he'd be the best player in the league.

The fact he's got everything in his locker, yet he's JUST shy, is what kills.

I'm going to liken Coutinho to the vinegar strokes. Practically there, but you just want that little bit more to make it sensational

He is the best player in the league at getting past a defender, by miles. That will do for me.
