Liverpool midfielder Luis Diaz's parents were kidnapped in Colombia after being stopped by gunmen on motorbikes.
His mother was later rescued but his father remains missing.
Cilenis Marulanda was rescued by police in the city of Barrancas, Colombia's President Gustavo Petro said.
"In a padlock operation in Barrancas, Luis Diaz's mother has been rescued, we continue the search for the father," the President tweeted.
Meanwhile, the country's police director, General William Salamanca, said he is using every agent to find Diaz's father.
The 26-year-old Colombian international's parents were reportedly kidnapped as they drove to their home.
Early reports suggest they were at a petrol station aboard a truck when they were approached by armed men travelling on motorbikes.
Army resources have been deployed along with the police.
Colombia's soccer federation said the kidnapping was regrettable - and urged authorities to rescue the father.
"The Colombian Football Federation rejects the security situation that the parents of our player Luis Díaz are going through," a statement said.
"From the FCF, we express our solidarity with him and his entire family, and we call for the relevant authorities to act as quickly as possible to resolve the situation."
The Colombian attorney General's office also said in a statement: "From the moment when Colombia's General Prosecutor's Office learned of the kidnapping of the parents of Colombian player Luis Díaz in the Barrancas area of La Guajira, a specialist team of prosecutors, CTI (Technical Investigation Team) officials and investigators from the police and military have been taking urgent action to locate these individuals, clarify the chain of events and identify the culprits."
A Liverpool statement added: "It is our fervent hope that the matter is resolved safely and at the earliest possible opportunity. In the meantime, the player's welfare will continue to be our immediate priority.

His father has been rescued

[article]Police in Colombia remain active to return the father of Luis Diaz safely after the parents of the Liverpool winger were kidnapped on Saturday evening.

Despite reports on Sunday morning that Luis Manuel Diaz had since been rescued alongside the player's mother, Cilenis Marulanda, it is believed the Reds winger's father is still being held hostage.

The director of the Colombian police has taken charge of the situation after the kidnapping which took place in the Los Olivos neighbourhood of Barrancas, in Guajira, after the family van was ambushed at a petrol station by men on motorcycles.

It's thought Colombian police immediately launched 'operation padlock' to return the pair safely and after the roads out of La Guajira were closed to deny the exit of the four kidnappers, Mrs Marulanda was eventually found safely in the Carretalito district.

However, despite claims on Sunday that Diaz Snr was also found by the police, multiple sources in Colombia have confirmed those to be inaccurate at this stage. It is feared by those in the region that police are concerned about the kidnappers fleeing to nearby Venezuela.

Jurgen Klopp told BBC Sport: “We had to obviously make a late change because of the private situation involving Luis Diaz.

“It’s a worrying situation for all of us and it was a pretty tough night. I have never had that before. It’s a new experience I never needed.”

Liverpool say they will continue to support their winger through the ordeal as they await further information from South America. A club statement read: “Liverpool Football Club can confirm it is aware of an ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz in Colombia.

“It is our fervent hope that the matter is resolved safely and at the earliest possible opportunity. In the meantime, the player’s welfare will continue to be our immediate priority.”

The director of Colombia’s National Police, General William Salamanca, is quoted as saying: "We already have the mother, she is in good health, scared, but she is fine. They took the father away on a motorcycle, they took him out of the car and took him along the trails there. We are committed to carrying out checkpoints and identifying people on motorcycles."

A statement from the Colombian football federation read: "The Colombian Football Federation regrets the security situation that the parents of our player Luis Diaz are going through. From the FCF we express our solidarity with him and his entire family and we call for the relevant authorities to act as quickly as possible to resolve the situation."[/article]

Shit.

Yeah still MIA and those fuckers will get their money once he gets to Venezuela it’s the only way he’s coming home.

I wonder if they rescued the mother or the father convinced them to let her go and only take him.

The longer this goes on, the more concerning it becomes.

Hopefully, they find him alive and well.
