To really piss them off....We should demand £20m...no less....(remember we are under no obligation to sell)....Yes, funds may be needed. But demand £20m & ask for Agger as a sweetner....Then we can wipe our hands clean of Downing.....AND AGGER DO DO DO DO!!

This is quite tempting, to be fair...

It's so obvious that we should walk away from this.
[/quote]

You know we won't though. We'll end up giving them 25M and Gerrard or something.

The next day, the official site will have up pics of Downing in his LFC training gear cycling through our Swiss training camp. Coupled with a video of Stevie G's worst misses or something.

"Whatever Ronaldo can do, Stuart Downing can do more efficiently".

But on the bright side, come 12pm today, we'll have hit the mid point of the week and are on the downward slope towards the weekend.

Ha.

Except I'm a bit off fair-haired no.9s playing in red these days.

Roy Race is English through and through, Jules. In fact when he is not scoring for Melchester Rovers, he is thwarting the plans of diabolical baddies who are of course foreigners. Sometimes he does both at the same time - for example he will nip off at half-time, sort out a criminal foreigner and get back on the pitch in time to score the winner in the second half. 😀

Aston Villa reject £15m Downing offer to add to Liverpool’s frustration

One possibility is that David Ngog will be used as a makeweight in the deal. The French forward is valued at £8 million by Liverpool and was close to joining Sunderland last month only for the transfer to collapse because of the player’s personal terms.

Fucking hell!

So now that the Adam's front has gone A shape and deadly quiet we are going on a downer with Downing?

'Worth £20m'

I read that as £15m + Cole, which isn't too bad.

We best not slap downing on crazy wages, mind.

Liverpool look to Mata as Villa reject second Downing bid
Published 23:01 05/07/11 By David Maddock

Stewart Downing will seek showdown talks with Aston Villa after the club turned down a second bid from Liverpool for his services.

The England winger will make clear his determination to leave having discovered the increased £15million offer from the Anfield outfit was rejected this week.

The Reds have made Downing their number one wing target this summer, and made an initial £12m bid a fortnight ago.

Downing has refused the offer of a new contract with the Brummies and, with just two years remaining on his current deal, believes Villa should be reasonable over the fee they are demanding.

But with Villa having already sold one star winger, Ashley Young, to Manchester United, new manager Alex Mcleish is determined to make every attempt possible to keep the player - unless interested parties meet his valuation of almost £20m.

Villa argue that price is not unreasonable for a full England international who ended last season as one of the form players in the Premier League but is still young enough to develop further.

However, Liverpool believe Downing’s contract situation, and his determination to move to Merseyside, makes their valuation more realistic and they will now put the ball firmly in Villa’s court.

Downing will seek talks with McLeish this week and in them will make clear his determination to go.

If necessary, he could even be forced to submit a transfer request to bring the issue to a head.

But he is hoping to avoid that scenario, as he reiterates his refusal to sign a new contract, and is looking for a compromise to be reached.

Liverpool are unlikely to go beyond £15m for the winger and do have other targets at the position.

They have made enquiries about Valencia’s Juan Mata, for example, and have been quoted a fee in the region of £20m which, given the player’s age and massive promise as Spain’s best Under-21 player, would seem better value - especially if Villa refuse to budge.

I hope to god we get Mata.

We should be looking to him first anyway. He's better than Downing albeit different type of players.
