Ekitike

I just can't see how he is worth even half of a Wirtz, never mind not far off. €100m for an unproven 22 year old? If we were talking €50-60m I would get it but you're talking top dollar. Big gamble.

I think there's a lot more creative players in the world than strikers. Supply and demand init. Loads of high profile sides need a striker, whereas a lot less need a 10.

Transfer fees are based on the need of the team buying them and the need of the team selling. Frankfurt already lost marmoush, and we're on fire need of a 9. It's the perfect storm sadly.

I don't like it, but it's something we need.

Not sure Alvarez is the best option when we're signing Wirtz.
Oh I think he is, for sure. I think Slot was deeply impressed by the fluidity of PSG’s wonderful attacking play and a front 4 of Wirtz, Diaz, Alvarez and Salah would offer a similar fluidity and unpredictability…and he’s a world class striker with crucial prem experience..

Yeah to me if you're going for a fluid creative attack you want a technical and intelligent striker like Alvarez rather than a physical specimen like Ekitike. That makes sense to me. But I'm just a simple housewife so what do I know.

What’ Plettenburg’s accuracy like on reporting - or, given no-one’s bid yet or is our name being used to smoke out offers?

There is no such thing as "reporting accuracy, "all these journo's are knock offs of one another, all full of shite.

95% of it will all be waffle, then they'll all hop the bandwagon once something is like 99% done and fight over who got to and shared "the exclusive first", unless you're someone like Ornstein, Joyce or Romano who just announces things as & when it happens.

Generally the only person I really follow is Romano for 2 main reasons....he's active on the transfer/contract front every window and because he covers pretty much the entire footballing world. I actually watched his mini documentary on BT a few years ago and I admired the amount of work he gets through daily.

The way slot played at feyenoord had a similar profile striker to Ekitike (giminez, now at Milan), as someone who has a strong physical presence, but also comes deep with intelligence and someone with excellent control.

I feel Ekitike is being downplayed as a lump up front. He's much better than that

What’s “Tap In” saying about this one?

I watch the odd video on YouTube - Personally think he full of shit and just good at making it sound like he’s in the know - plus he’s painful to listen too.

The only positive is that it's someone we've been consistently linked to. Hopefully this time he actually knows something
It'll be a "throw shit at the wall and see if it sticks" tweet..

He knows we are after a striker.
He knows we've been in the German market twice so far
He's already nailed the Sesko to Arsenal narrative (plot twist.. if Arsenal sign Gyokeres, Sesko will be linked to us by Plettiberg).

He hasn't. Which means it's not likely at this point. Tap in only announces stuff when it's tap in time.

I agree he's not some lump, but he doesn't look very mobile over short distances either. It's those little darting runs into tight spaces I'd worry about.

Might be in terms of fluidity, but in terms of building an attack I disagree. Alvarez isnt a typical 9 and you'd have an attack based on two 5'10 players. I'd rather have a specialist 6'3 nr 9 that can spearhead the attack.

Wirtz behind or playing close to Ekitike sounds like a much better base for a good attack and different tactical approaches.

I've not watched much of the bundesliga - all i know of frimpong and wirtz is what i've seen in int'ls.
i don't think I've seen Ekitike - is he really that good?

He's a solid striker that has some flaws, as some would expect for a 22 year old. His levels didn't drop off after marmoush left; if anything his all round play improved.

In no way is he the finished article, but very few of our targets are.

So basically - we're signing him before he could have his 'next jump' ...
Seems like a FSG signing.
Is 100 million really what we have to spend him on though?
Marmoush went for what? 60/70? Surely same price range.

If you could get him at 100 mill, or Alvarez, who would you take?

He's overpriced, and I'd like Alvarez. But I do think that's all paper talk about the fee. I think he'll move a lot closer to 80m.

Not sure why its a worry as those traits are his strengths. Very explosive, powerful runner, great movement and he makes a high volume amount of runs in behind. Excellent technique and first touch. Very good in tight spaces.

Its his hold up play that needs development.

Tbf when was the last time you were negative about anything the club did? We could be linked to Rasmus Hojlund and you'd be telling us how great he is.

Don't agree with the last two posts, I'm afraid. IMO Ekitike's not the best option available (in my book that would be Alvarez or Sesko, depending on Slot's expectations for the no.9 role) and I'm not convinced he has Isak-level potential either. Interesting times.

I don't really rate Sesko that highly.

Alvarez is a good CF, great workrate, further ahead in his development, but I think he's close to his best level right now. Etitike has a higher ceiling imo. Moreover, I do worry about Alvarez's lack of height. I want a 9 who can help us defend and attack set pieces. We're getting shorter with Frimpong and Wirtz. Set pieces are a big part of the game in England.
