Get him to the Greek (Deal Confirmed)

For the sake of a few million surely better to get first choice and a homegrown player.

I'd rather Klopp developed a back three as the alternative option, even pay him the few milion for his trouble. That would be much better than seeing either of these players in the lineup next season, accompanied with a massive billboard over their head signposting to the other team this way, roll up roll up, this way, attack this side if you want three points, first come first served, roll up roll up.

If Norwich aren't willing to budge from their 20 million valuation, this is the right decision. No point paying 20 million for a player who's primarily going to be a backup.

That Lewis kid must be fucking gutted.

If doing this deal frees up money for other signings then that's fine by me, but I'm still baffled how we can be so short of cash after winning the PL, low net spend, and 2 CL finals in 3 years. It's hard to take.

He looks cheeky like he'd grin after firing over a boss cross that just missed the striker. I'm in

Spending almost 10 mill more on a back up isnt worth it imho.
Its the right call if Norwich arent willing to lower their valuation.

Rather add that 10 mill on improving other areas.

I don't understand the clamour for Lewis.

This guy is a shit ton more exciting than Jamal. Faster, better crossing, dribbles, adventurous. And cheaper too. The only advantage Jamal has is his youth, and being home grown.

Fuck Norwich and their stupid valuation.

Yeah, I agree if Norwich were adamant that we'd have to pay £20 mill they can fuck off.
Honestly, I've barely seen anything from this Tsimikas fella but from the little I've seen I can tell that he's less of a project than Lewis.

Surely with income falling 40-60% with match day income, commercial revenue and tv money reduced, on the back of improved contracts for key players - surely that makes it likely that funds allocated to potential transfers have been repurposed to cover operating costs?

FSG may not be putting any cash in, but they’re also making sure we don’t run up debt.

The thing with Lewis now is that we've basically set the max price for him. The transfer becoming public and us walking away after being turned down twice. No team will probably pay the £20 million they're asking for.

Sorry, what do you mean by that? “Less of a project” as in being a lesser player or less of a gamble?

Less of a project in that Tsimikas seems to be better than Lewis.
Less development.

Well, he’s 2 years older so that’s how it should be. Tsimikas seems closer to Robbo in style, but I still would probably pick Lewis out of the two because knowledge of the league is so good important for a defender and I like how athletic he is. The club are willing to pay a little more for Lewis than the Greek, so their preference is also probably in that order.

Maybe, but if FSG are going to be as tight as it seems, we don't have much choice. We can't be forced by Norwich, and also it will at least show other clubs we might deal with that we're not going to be arsed about by them. And anyway, I'm in a minority but I still like Adam Lewis - he can play LB, wing back, left wing at a push, right wing at a push, he's talented, eager to learn, he's a great reds fan and only injury has held him back. So we're not as bad as is claimed at cover for LB. If we can save cash here then let's spend it on more attacking positions.

The English premium might have something to with the price being higher

What about all the money we haven't spent the last couple of years?

What about the 80 odd million we earned from 2 CL finals? Did it ALL go on bonuses?

And why shouldn't FSG put a bit of cash in every now and again, when it's really needed? It's not unreasonable.

I think people are concerned due to parallels with Minamino. Looked good against English opposition in Europe, very good stats in a not so good league, impressive youtube video in a not so good league.

Kostas's numbers look very good but then when you look at the successful dribbles, the less talented brother of Emiliano Insua comes second.

I feel bad for Jamal Lewis ... this would have been a dream move for him and his career path ...
Hopefully Tsimikas is quality.
