What's that about ?

Maybe he's just changed his phone numbers and Jack has been kind enough to pop them up in case any of us would like to call him with words of encouragement ?

"There's a way of keeping the team and that's by raping and pillaging that soccer club I bought off that stupid limey fool which I paid for with magic beans"

Liverpool owner makes u-turn on US$600 million sale
18 August 2009 | By James Emmett

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks appears to have made a u-turn in his quest to sell his Texas Rangers MLB franchise.

Hicks has been trying to sell the franchise since he was forced to dissolve the Hicks Sports Marketing Group at the beginning of July but a buyer for the US$600 million-valued majority stake in the baseball team has been unforthcoming.

Hicks' financial woes were such that Major League Baseball is reported to have made US$15 million available to the Rangers to help pay operating costs, including player wages.

Speaking on Sunday after attending a Rangers win over Boston game, however, Hicks now seems determine to hold on to the vastly improving team.

There is a way [to keep the team], and I’m working on that," Hicks said. "So we’ll see."

Indeed, Hicks dismissed out of hand the notion that his financial situation was such that he had to sell immediately. Let’s not talk about that. We’re not going to talk about that," Hicks said. "I’ve always said I hoped to stay involved in a significant way with the Rangers because I want to be here to watch this plan finally happen."

George Gillett, co-owner of Liverpool with Hicks, recently agreed to sell his Montreal Canadiens NHL franchise for more than US$500 million.

It shows hows how far we've slumped. We used to have Gillett talking to the media, mentioning snoop-doogy-whatever, and then...how long has it been? The slimy little fecker has barely been in evidence for TWO YEARS, save for his bizarre 'It's all Rafa's fault' moan last season. We've all been under the cosh for so long I don't think we've stood back and reflected on how absurd it's all become. This twat can't even be arsed to mentioned the damned club these days. Extraordinary!

I wonder how interested they'd be now. The things they were reported to have said last time they dipped out of the picture sounded pretty terminal.

I'm certain that the global economic turmoil (which is especially bad in the Gulf) has affected all potential buyers. Once things start to turn around we'll probably see them back again.

So they plan to sell his Baseball team at around the same time as they need to sort of the finance deal, then after the deal is sorted he doesnt need to sell any more?

It's worth pointing out his baseball team is having their best season in quite a while, they look like they may make the playoffs.

If they make the playoffs they'll see increases in revenue next year

Its also worth pointing out that his "soccer" team had its best season in quite a while last season

He backed Benitez.

Made plenty of funds available to him.

So he may have a case....

On the same token the failure with the stadium is all down to him as well.

Credit where it is due and all that..
